Bungie, please consider Linux support -- it'll be a net positive for you, and for players.

I fully understand the rationale behind wanting to prevent cheaters, but with how popular SteamOS and the Steam Deck/Steam Machine are, and the fact that public opinion of Windows keeps waning due to blatant enshittification, you could stand to legitimately profit from allowing as many as possible to play the game, especially with the influx of new and returning players that'll come with the unvaulting. Battleye actively works via Proton. It's not some hack by the community, Valve themselves provide support, it's by default present in the library of every user running Steam on Linux. It works just as well as it does on Windows, or any other platform. If the rationale is "well it's easier to cheat on Linux" -- the vast majority of cheating happens on Windows, but the game was still released on PC, and isn't console only (and even console will have cheaters). It's unfortunate that people enjoy ruining the game for others, but the approach of blindly cutting a portion of the potential player-base is not the way to fix that. You already won back a very solid part of the community by announcing you'll be unvaulting content, and now you can win even more people and pull them back in (and pull new players in, too) by making the game more accessible for non-Windows players. I myself would love to go back and replay the Red War, and even get and play the new DLCs, all as one package, but simply cannot due to the platform ban. Especially now, with companies like Ubisoft explicitly deciding to drop support (also to "prevent cheating," despite infamously being inefficient at preventing it), standing out as a company that wants to support as many players for their game as possible is just a net positive. It wouldn't cost you extra development time, it wouldn't require you to do more patches to make the game run better on Linux, no native support is being asked for, and the Linux gaming community is at this point infamous for making things run well on their platform, so long as you don't blatantly bar us from even trying. I do genuinely hope that I, and others asking for this, can be heard. The hypothetical increase in cheating -- which I doubt there will be any -- would be a minuscule fraction of the total amount of players that would gladly play D2, and future games, as long as you don't actively prevent it via platform bans.
