Strand/Shatter Skating...what am I doing wrong?

So I'm trying to learn strand/shatter skating with my Hunter in the hopes of getting across the gap in Last Wish to pick up the solo chest on the other side. With the Warlock it's a simple matter of Heat Rises + Dawnblade + Icarus Dash. With the Titan it's even more simple with Lions Ramparts, Catapult Lift, and just alternating lift and light attack with a sword. The Hunters had no means of crossing this gap before, but now, ostensibly, "skating" could make it happen. I have a few dozen videos on how to do it, for both Stasis "Shater skating" and "Strand Skating" using the Ensnaring Slam aspect. Every video says you "just need any sword with Eager Edge. Every video uses "The Other Half" or sometimes "Half-truths," very specific swords that only drops from one specific activity. Very specific swords that I specifically do not have. Still, they insist "ANY sword with Eager Edge" can be used to accomplish a skate. I am not finding this to be true. At all. I do not know if I'm just not getting the timing right, or if there's more to it. I have tried with the Chivalric Fire (Caster Frame), the Nasreddin (Lightweight Frame), and the Synanceia (Wave Sword Frame). So far Nasreddin is the only one that has accomplished any manner of "launching" in Shater Skate but so far has yielded no results at all with Strand skating. Which leads me to question if "ANY sword with Eager Edge" is actually true. See, the thing is Other Half and Half-truths are both ADAPTIVE Frame swords. Which means their Heavy Attack is going to be different than Wave, Caster, and Lightweight Heavy Attacks. I do not have any Adaptive Frame swords with Eager Edge. Am I boned and it's just not possible to "skate" with any other type of sword, or do I just need to keep practicing?

  • I used to do that bridge on hunter simply by using the strand super, 2 grapple and eager edge. I cant remember if I used to start with the super or im thinking I let the super burn down to half at 1st but theres definitely a combo of them 3 I used to easily get over that bridge. Ive not done it in years

  • Remove auto melee from settings. For me that fixed my inconsistency problem immediately. Not sure why

    • Yeah, any sword frame is BS. It's all about the heavy attack launch angle for distance. Adaptives are baseline and will get the job done. However, Vortex Frames are the best because they give you a flat launch angle, and its like several meters of extra distance with that. Also, I don't know if you're having activation issues, but OG skate is easy, but situational. You need a ledge with a certain amount of distance back to to skate from. But the buttons are super easy. You just smash them all at the same time. For ground skating, it's way more difficult, and it's best practice to use a macro. But you can skate from most anywhere with it. I don't remember the exact buttons cause i don't macro, so don't use it. But it's like an extra jump to start, then the full combo, but you have to be so fast that without macros, it's almost undoable. Hope that helped.

      • Two different skate methods with stasis, ground and ledge. Ground uses light attacks and can use ANY EE sword. Ledge can only use Vortex, lightweight, and adaptive frames swords with using their heavy attacks. Though vortex is going to give you the most momentum with its heavy attack. I'm not much for skating with strand so I can't speak on it. But yes you can skate with any sword, depending on the skate you want to use. Ground skating doesn't go as far but only requires you to be on a flat or nearly flat surface, ledge skating takes you much further with vortex and requires you to be at or nearly at a ledge to achieve. Definitely need to practice your timing, but the firing range is a great place to lean and practice with the free constant rally. And plenty of ledges to skate off of.

      • The main reason you'll see the "halo swords" used in the demonstrations is that they were the first with Eager Edge so many of those players already had them, or the videos themselves were made before other Eager Edge swords existed. You truly can do it with any Eager Edge blade. One of the main ways people mess this up is if they have their "aerial" ability (in this case, Shatterdive) set to double-tapping the button instead of holding it. If you have it set to double-tap, you'll very likely never get it working. You basically have to set it to "hold" in order for the technique to work. I know you said in a followup post that you got it work when you started on ground that was less uneven, and that's the other most common issue with technique failure. The above is just other things to keep in mind.

      • Ok, now I just feel stupid. It seems my problem was not the sword, but the wonky, uneven geometry of the broken bridge. I was trying to launch as close to the edge as possible to get the most distance, but apparently the uneven surface was throwing things off. When I started farther up the slope where it's relatively smooth, the launch was successful with the Nasreddin. I will be trying other swords in subsequent resets to see which one gives me the best results as I still would not have made the jump without the aid of the Grapple grenade. Which does kinda lead into another question: does anyone know how moving the joystick affects grapple movement? E.g. does "moving forward" cause you to swing rather than simply be drawn towards the grapple point, or does it cause you to accelerate thus leading to a greater launching distance when you let go? Does "moving back" reduce the momentum and thus limit the height you can reach, or does it do something else? Does your movement not affect the grapple in any way and it all boils down to your position and current momentum/inertia relative to the grapple point at the moment of deployment?

        • When I was looting that chest on my hunter, I just used the strand grapple and super. If I recall, I would double jump off, grapple, jump, grapple, super, and then spam grapple and single jump during super, would always get me across with time to spare.

          • Worldline Zero Sword w EE Strand Super You need to practice it if you can't skate. You time your triple jump & the AoE whirls with the grapple. It takes a little practice luckily there's a flag there and you can wipe.
