Something I’d like to see come a hypothetical D3

In a perfect world, where we were getting a hypothetical D3, we’d obviously have the whole of D1 and D2 in the mix, so with that being said, I’d like to see Bungie do this with destinations. In Rise of Iron and Shadowkeep, we got expansions to old locations, those being the Cosmodrome and the Moon. Of course, along with these new expansions, the overall aesthetic of the region changed, most especially with the Cosmodrome being covered in snow. So what if, in this hypothetical D3, we see Bungie expand on this system. As players go through the campaigns, they have access to the a version of patrol most recent to whatever campaign they’ve completed. This means if you were playing D1 Vanilla, you’d have access to all these old locations as they were in D1 Vanilla. When you get to a campaign that alters a preexisting destination, like Rise of Iron, said Patrol location will update to match the new version of that patrol. This means you’d have access to the Cosmodrome as it was in Rise of Iron (with the caveat that hopefully Bungie would update the whole of the Patrol Zone, and not just cut entire swaths of it out like they had in the Plague Lands version of the Cosmodrome and later in the Beyond Light version of the cosmodrome). What this means is that Bungie doesn’t always have to design entirely new planets or Patrol zones for a Campaign, and can instead update the old Patrol Zones, bringing them up to par with the new destinations, while also increasing the number of secrets, the complexity, and a whole host of other things to do with the Patrol Zones. If we wanted to go down the Normal, Legendary, Mythic route like they had with Kepler, we could have it so that Normal Patrol is the old patrol zone, while legendary and Mythic are the newest ones, in order to keep a level of difficulty with the new Patrol Zones. I don’t know if it would make it easier, developing an Expansion and all, but it would help with the Directory and hopefully it wouldn’t become so inundated with destinations. Another solution to that is to do what they had with Renegades and have multiple levels of the Directory, where you can access specific locations and destinations that are closely related. Like, for example, you could access the Earth, Tower, Moon, and Leviathan by clicking an “Earth tab” in the directory, and it would appear similar to how Renegades has it going. All of this is just a pipe dream. I know that should we ever get a D3, it will see nothing of the old games besides maybe raids return, and that’s rather disappoint to me given that both Destiny1 and Destiny2 have been such significant, meaningful parts of my life. I’ll miss them. Especially Destiny 2 which in spite of all the work the developers put in, has been left in an incomplete state. I thank them for Monument of Triumph, and it truly is a good update, but it saddens me that Destiny 2 could never be in the state it SHOULD’VE been in.

  • IF and that's a huge IF d3 came out. I don't want anything from d1 or d2 in D3.

  • Patrol had so much potential as a game mode! They could have included really cool things… marathon could have been made in any patrol space as game mode.. the extraction zone :)

  • If we got a destiny 3 I'd rather see them give us new everything and never bring stuff back from D1 or D2. When I buy a new game I want new not stuff I've already played.

  • Curse of Osiris got a lot of criticism for good reason, but something I really enjoyed was seeing the golden age, present day and future apocalypse. I’d love to have the ability to time travel in destinations. In a “perfect” version of Destiny, you’d be able to visit all past content too, but I think reality is that it’d just be too huge to build and maintain. My biggest gripe with D2 is that it became bloated with low quality content and obsolete junk, so my biggest wish for D3 would be less content, higher quality.
