marathon is, at this exact moment, ranked #430 on the steamcharts with under 3k players. The vast majority of the rest of bungie is about to be fired or put on new IP's
Destiny 2 is #57 with under 30k players, making a ton more money than marathon but destiny is now abandoned
Parson's pump and dump killed an entire company

Polpadare“Have fun with it” killed the game - old
Yea but how many of those Marathon kucks blew hundreds on other games after they regretfully bought something they only played 1 week. Sony killed Destiny because destiny players got the most bang for their buck out of any franchise made to date. -
6 RepliesWhat’s worse is that reportedly the majority of Marathon’s players are PC while it’s less than a 1/3 hour of D2’s if historic trends continue Marathon should have been a Destiny DLC
-
13 RepliesPlayer count dosent directly mean more money. Considering support for destiny ended destiny wasn't making enough money when it had more players.

4 Repliesdestiny died so marathon would fail so sony would shutdown bungie

Why would anybody in their right mind trust the company that could barely structure a coherent PvP experience in D2, with an insanely amazing core, with a full extraction shooter in PvP-only? Most obviously do not. Just look at the matchmaking now that IB and Trials don't have a million players to pick from. It's nearly broken. How long did Trials sit in the gutter with the most illogical look setup known to man? About a decade with D2. These people at Bungie have no idea what they are doing. And it's really obvious Sony does not trust them anymore at all. I think they could possibly pull off a D3, but they would need a lot of new PvP people.

Buddy, it’s over. Move on.

That's not what that means at all. All it means is that Destiny 2 has more active players than Marathon. That's it. Doesn't guarantee that Destiny 2 is more profitable. Especially since it's free to play and all the expansions are heavily discounted.

How is destiny making a tonne more money? Ain't no one spending on either game, & if they are it's peanuts. If we're being honest here, destiny has lost 90% of it's players it gained in the June update & 99.99% of it's players since launch, whereas marathon has had a very solid 9k daily players for months 😆

A big part of the problem (allegedly) is that their offices are in an expensive state to operate in so they could have saved themselves by just relocating to a more cost sensitive state. Still wouldn't have made Marathon appeal to the average Destiny player, but it would have made operations cheaper and slowed down their downfall. All that said, though I maintain that they should have taken a break from Destiny after TFS and come back with D3 on current and next gen. At least that way they would still have player trust.

1 ReplyMarathon DB has also been put in maintenance mode, I guess it’s not worth doing the data base.
-
3 RepliesHow's D2 making more money since we don't pay for play time?
-
Relax, Marathon will soon be joining Destiny as a dead game.

If you call selling for billions more than you’re worth “killing” then yes. It actually worked perfectly
