The exotic primary weapons in PvP need to be enhanced, and here is my proposal
After the final update of the current "Triumph Monument", many old legendary weapons have been significantly enhanced in terms of basic stats (base stats) such as range, stability, and controllability through the "weapon upgrade" system; while many old exotic weapons (such as the Spade A) are still difficult to match even with catalyst buffs in terms of total base stats. This numerical gap directly leads to the fact that the "dual legendary weapons" combination has a much higher appearance rate in the PvP environment than the "exotic weapon + legendary weapon" combination. Only exotic weapons with extremely unique mechanics (such as the Cloudstrike) can maintain a certain appearance rate, while most exotic weapons centered around gunplay have gradually become less popular.
My proposal is to introduce an independent Masterwork system for exotic weapons. Players can obtain exclusive catalysts such as "Range Masterwork" and "Control Masterwork" by completing high-difficulty missions, which will specifically enhance one basic panel attribute (such as +10 range, +10 stability, etc.) of the exotic weapon.
The core advantage of this scheme lies in:
1. Only affects basic attributes without introducing functional interference: Unlike weapon module slots, Masterpiece only enhances panel values such as range, stability, and maneuverability, and does not carry functional perks such as magazine expansion or hip-fire grip. Therefore, it will not conflict or pose any risk of overlap with the unique mechanisms of exotic weapons.
2. Fully compatible with existing systems: The Masterpiece system itself already exists within the cultivation system of legendary weapons. Extending this mechanism to exotic weapons requires no new resource types or changes to the existing framework, resulting in low player comprehension cost and relatively less difficulty in development and implementation.
As designers, you can definitely think of some situations where we might not do this. Here are some possible concerns and my considerations.
Concern 1: The additional +10 attribute will disrupt the balance of PvP, allowing exotic weapons to overwhelm legendary weapons.
My consideration: Taking actual data as an example, Eyasluna, while having a range of 95, still maintains a stability of 77 and a handling of 60, whereas the Ace of Spades, at a similar range, has far lower stability and handling. Even if the Ace of Spades is given a +10 range as a Masterwork, its overall base stats are still suppressed by the Falcon Moon. In other words, supplementing the base stats of old-fashioned exotic weapons for gunplay is more like bringing them back to the starting line, rather than giving them an advantage. In the current PvP environment, the base stats disadvantage of exotic weapons has become so severe that they have completely lost competitiveness in gunplay. Moderate reinforcement will only enrich build options, rather than creating new imbalances.
Concern 2: It may dilute the value of the "weapon upgrade" system to legendary weapons.
My consideration: The design of the game itself, which "allows only one exotic weapon to be carried," ensures that legendary weapons and exotic weapons are complementary rather than competitive. Even if the base exotic weapon is enhanced, players still need to carry a legendary weapon as a secondary weapon. Opening up Masterwork for exotic weapons is precisely to make them more qualified to occupy that unique "exotic" slot, which is in line with the original design intention of "only allowing one to be carried," rather than eroding the existence space of legendary weapons.
Concern 3: Exotic weapons are easier to obtain than legendary weapons.
My considerations: I admit that exotic weapons indeed do not require repeated grinding for random Perks like legendary weapons, and the acquisition threshold is relatively low. Because of this, I suggest that the difficulty of the system's missions should be significantly higher than the current catalyst acquisition process - for example, missions can only be completed once a week, with harsh conditions for completing the task, and requiring a significant number of kills to accumulate. At the same time, the type of masterpiece obtained each time a mission is completed should be random (such as randomly granting range, stability, maneuverability, etc.), rather than allowing players to choose, in order to introduce a similar randomness investment as grinding for Perks on legendary weapons. In this way, players who want to obtain specific base body bonuses will need to repeatedly challenge themselves, and their time and effort investment can be compared to grinding for a legendary weapon with perfect Perks, thus achieving a balance in acquisition cost.
This suggestion is not intended to make exotic weapons crush legendary weapons on the panel, but rather to restore the competitiveness of veteran gun-type exotic weapons in PvP through a masterpiece system that focuses on the base weapon, is independent of catalysts, and does not affect unique mechanisms. At the same time, the acquisition cost is ensured to be reasonable through high-difficulty missions and random drop mechanisms. This change fully aligns with Bungie's design philosophy of "making every weapon have its value" and respects the underlying restriction of "only being able to carry one exotic weapon".
