Loot Economy is discouraging long-term player

I’ve played over 400 hours of Marathon, and I genuinely enjoy the game. I want it to succeed, which is why I’m writing this feedback. My biggest issue right now is the current loot economy. After the recent loot changes, it feels like the only reliable way to get high-end gear is by killing other players who already have it. Outside of that, the only somewhat worthwhile farming spot is the red room at Outpost, and even there the rewards often don’t feel worth the effort. Items like Epic Shields, Epic Backpacks, strong healing supplies, and other valuable equipment have become far too rare. For experienced players like me, this is already frustrating. Despite having over 400 hours, a high vault value, and playing with a regular squad, I’ve completely run out of good gear. I have almost no weapons, shields, or backpacks left because replacing lost equipment has become extremely difficult. Now imagine the experience for an average player. If I struggle to maintain good gear after hundreds of hours, newer or less experienced players probably have an even harder time. They are forced to enter matches with green or blue equipment while facing players wearing Epic or even Legendary gear. This creates a huge gear gap. Ranked especially becomes very discouraging because entering with low-tier equipment often feels like you’re already at a disadvantage before the fight even starts. Eventually, players run out of gear, lose motivation, and stop playing—not because they dislike the gameplay, but because recovering from losses feels almost impossible. I don’t think good loot should be easy or free. Risk and reward are an important part of extraction shooters. However, I believe there should be more consistent ways to earn quality gear through gameplay instead of relying almost entirely on killing already well-equipped players. Some ideas: * Increase Epic gear drop rates from PvE objectives. * Add more rewarding high-risk PvE events. * Give players additional progression paths to recover after losing their equipment. * Reduce the dependence on player kills as the primary source of high-end loot. I truly want Marathon to succeed. The gunplay, movement, and core gameplay are excellent. But right now, the loot economy feels like it’s pushing away average players and even long-time players like me. I don’t want easier PvP or free loot. I want more meaningful ways to earn gear through challenging gameplay, so players can get back into the fight instead of feeling stuck after a losing streak. Thank you for listening, and I hope you’ll continue improving the game.

  • You are an above average player, not an average player. Most gamers do not play Ranked. You are being matched against highly skilled players. I have seen reports where some players have as much as 900 hours in the game. When your vault becomes depleted you must reduce your expectations and play less challenging maps. I lost a lot of gear last weekend. My vault is usually full. In a matter of hours I had only 350 slots in use. Many of my weapons were lost. I immediately changed my playing to restore the vault during the next couple days. Are you buying as much as possible from the Armory and claiming the free gear every day to dismantle it?

  • It's not like they will stay anyway, everything will be gone at reset so why bother?
