If they actually wanted to the team could use a similar model to Warframe and give the game more chapters.
Technically they are still Bungee and not Sony, so they could have a spine and go for it.

Not how business works. Sony own bungie and have final say on everything now so if the devs tried to push back they'd get fired which isn't worth the risk if they still have jobs.

They could have done anything they wanted with it, until they sold themselves to Sony. Unfortunately it seems what they wanted to do was waste a bunch of money on pointless things like developing a dating game and buy a HQ they couldn't afford or needed. Honestly though, the things Warframe does would break Destiny in ways never seen before. Imagine they added a class with an AI companion you could switch back and forth with anytime you want? I think Destiny would just explode.
