Why are you playing the game?
if you’re bored, then why are you playing and speeding through content that requires you to be thorough with it cause of the score system that can give you more loot if you do and not just do something else, for context strokes
If you just want loot, play with friends that don’t mind you doing it
(this point was to talk about points that some people do want to enjoy the game or are trying to farm resources to masterwork gear)
To me I have hated speed runners with a passion at least in casual content and I believe kinda killed the game a bit, cause from the outside looking in as I don’t do it, it makes it feel boring as I’m playing catch up and if a new player is playing with you.. do you think they will find it fun to just watch you playing a game they want to play?
(While I may say I hate them and blame them, I will never try and make them play how I want them to as each to their own)
Edit: and I’m just going to clarify something, what i consider a speedrunner is pretty much the same thing, “person who finishes something as fast as possible”
Edit2: now since i did not get my point across in the best manner, i might as well fix it since my phone was dead for a good while, this is not me complaining or dictating how a game should be played, this entire tread was a question of “why” since i am more of the quantity of loot, since reaching the score does give out better and more resources for people who are farming them.
I do apologise for not really making that clear enough as I should have, you can play how you want to, but I was just wondering your way of thinking that is all, any points i have I will clarify more meaning with brackets
Last edit: I would like to thank everyone who commented, while I know some people either agreed, joked or disagreed, I did find the answers I was looking for.
Why do they do it: cause as much as it, it’s repetitive and can get quite boring to play
Why not play with friends who play like that?: simple put it was a dumb question from the start, since it can and will be thrown back at me and that is a fair response
My personal hate for it?: is personal and shouldn’t dictate how players play as in the end it’s just a game
Did it kill the game a bit?: a bit yes and a bit no, from a stand point of a new player you are effectively watching a experience player at work, some can find it amazing to watch and some dislike it, but thinking on the other side.. they probably been farming for who knows how long.
So to all the guardians who commented, thank you

Completely agree. I posted something similar a couple months ago. My suggestion is modify the activity to run it solo. It's not fun running after them and ending up with a C score because they skipped the requirements.

For those that shoot everything: Better score is better loot For those that speed run: Faster win is more farming for that roll you could have got in one regular paced run... And let's face it - speed runners have been in the game since all the skating and shatter and eager edge could be done. "LOOK AT MEEE! I'M SO FAST! OH 💩 WHY DID I DIE?" And I walk by looking at your ghost saying "I don't know"

2 RepliesThe beauty of speedrunning is the chase for unquestioned perfection... To operate in a realm of specific rules and be the absolute best... It's a realm and class of gameplay unrivaled... As speedrunning has no limits as to the what the when the where and the why.... The only thing that the runner cares about and that's the how... And and the will to see it through... With your worth measured in fractions of a second... In pure expressions of Skill and dedication found in very few other sports today... That is speedrunning...

1 ReplyAt the end of the day people should be allowed to play the game how they want not to be dictated by YOU

1 ReplyBy definition I’m not a “speed runner”, but I am someone who enjoys using movement perks like EE. Ultimately if I have to do six different runs in Fireteam and Arena Quickplay in order to obtain my materials, currencies, and two guaranteed weapons with AA for the week, then I’m going to burn through those as fast as humanly possible. Especially since Bungie changed it so T5 gear doesn’t drop at the end of Normal/Master. I also noticed that it was pulling my bonus drops from whatever the strike or activity was that I was playing in QP, which is a complete waste for me if they aren’t T5. The reality is if I’m playing for fun then I’m playing with my friends, if I’m utilizing matchmaking then I’m just there to farm gear as quick as possible and I’m not going to prolong anything more than I need to. If people want to play fast or slow it’s irrelevant to me. I know when I choose to utilize matchmaking that I get what I get as far as teammates are concerned. If that is going to bother or annoy me then I’m in FF creating my own team with teammates I can vet before proceeding and who may have similar goals as me.

1 ReplyIn my experience even taking my time and going for higher scores, i still get low tier rewards. No point wasting time killing every individual add if the rewards will still be trash tier. Just get the focus drop, hope it good and move on.

4 RepliesI remember reading these posts in the D1 forums 😅 [quote] If you just want loot, play with friends that don’t mind you doing it [quote] You could also take your own advice and make a team with friends who enjoy spending an hour on a strike 😉

1 ReplyEdited by CHAN9E: 7/9/2026 1:14:20 PMWhats weird is.. and hear me out. People farming end game content for end game loot. The fact you can farm end game content in and of itself means your gear is already good enough and the end game content you're farming is a waste of time.. unless you enjoy killing and clearing areas and living in the moment.. Its just weird to me.

4 RepliesI never really liked strikes because of that. I want to stop and smell the flowers , kick the dirt, and count the stars on my mission to kill bad guys. If there was a way to solo it I would've done it in a heartbeat.

8 RepliesSo your issues aren’t with “speedrunners” (people who go fast). Your issues are with how Bungie had designed this content. Strikes, as everyone can agree, aren’t the “most fun thing” to play given that they’re relatively light on the mechanic side and with the exception of Conquests nowadays, pretty easy combat wise. This has been the case since D1, where even the weekly Nightfall and Heroic Strike Playlist were pretty easy mechanically and combat wise with a few exceptions. Why is that important then? Well, it’s because this content is expected to engage endgame players who want to farm materials or gear. If the focus of the activity is for the loot, then people are going to run the activity as efficiently as possible to get as much loot as they want and need. This encourages players to go fast. This wasn’t an issue in D1 because we didn’t have tools like Well/Shatter skating or Eager Edge, but it’s also because Strikes were significantly shorter. Nowadays, the combat encounters last multiple phases, you have to repeat the limited mechanics 3-4 times, and there are health gates galore. All of this is intended to slow down players, who want to play an activity that is supposed to be snippy and quick due to how it engages the player. Another facet, though this is heavily tied to what I’ve explained above, is that Players are discouraged from using Heavies for damage. Specials are so overtuned in their current form, that they can compete with Heavy Weapons. This allows for you to “waste” the slot with an Eager Edge sword, which lets you go fast. If Bungie wants to encourage players to use different heavies, they need to reduce the effectiveness of Specials, increase the effectiveness of other heavies, and reduce activity length at base so that these “Speedrunners” can’t get to to far ahead of those taking their sweet time. Or maybe I’m just a shill and speaking out of my -blam!-. Who knows.

7 RepliesTrust me when I say that you are not playing with speedrunners. Just players moving fast. Real speedrunners do not play matchmade activities. I rarely play matchmade activities, and its mostly so that I can go as fast as I want and setup the activities how I want to get the most out of the them for the time spent. If you are playing regular matchmade activities, then you are not getting optimal loot from them. Either they are too easy (quickplay), or too slow and difficult for the reward given and can be run much easier for equal or better loot when setting up custom mods. Basically other than the 6 runs of quickplay, there is no reason to interact with the matchmade Portal activities from a loot perspective, and even for enjoyment, I rather run the Vanguard Alert than the featured matchmade activities, especially now that it can be customized this season.

6 RepliesYou have the right to kill every add, play slow and enjoy the game your way. Same way they have the right to speed run and get the mission done and enjoy the game their way. Don’t like how others player speed run or play differently? Sucks, form a fireteam and get like minded people to play with your way, or don’t :)

3 RepliesPeople going faster than you doesn't make them speed runners and it doesn't mean they're bored (?). You're basically asking more skilled players to bot-walk through content so you can have a good time. Get over yourself lol. If you want to play at bot speed, why don't YOU play with friends that don't mind you doing that. Seems there's quite a few others in the comments here. Join up with them and do your 45 minute expert level strikes to your heart's content.

1 ReplySpeed runners aren’t in matchmade playlist activities, or at least they aren’t speed running in them. What you’re seeing is just regular people who want to get their loot without wasting their time.
-
1 ReplyIf I need to grind an activity over and over for the piece of loot I want than I'm speed running for efficiency.
-
1 ReplyThis is a looter based game. People are farming with the limited time they have.
-
1 ReplyI’m by no means a “speed runner” but after playing Destiny since its inception and running these strikes hundreds of times it gets to the point where you know them like the back of your hand and can blast through them with little thought.
-
1 ReplyThey probably feel the same way about you playing slowly. The world doesn't revolve around what you want.
-
1 ReplyIt's funny

Ah, the age-old "I don't like how you play the game" post. Always good to see it never dies.
-
14 RepliesCurious as to what you categorize as speed running. Just eager edge swords or actual skating and using OOB's to progress?
-
Ther aren't any speedrunners in matchmade stuff, that's just people who want things get done.
-
8 RepliesWhen you have done something allot of times, it gets boring. And when you got all you can get out of it, and you know the ins and outs of whats comming then the only thing thats left is going fast.

Because the score for the most part doesn’t matter. The same argument could be said to you. If you have requirements for how people play, do your own lobby.
