Destiny 2 will not launch following Update 9.7.0. When clicking Play in Steam, the BattlEye launcher appears and shows "Launching Destiny 2", but the game never opens. Steam shows me as in-game and Task Manager shows a Destiny2.exe process running at near-zero utilisation, but no game window appears.
This issue began after updating to 9.7.0 yesterday.
Troubleshooting steps already completed:
- Cleared Steam download cache
- Verified integrity of game files
- Full uninstall and reinstall of Destiny 2
- Ran Steam and Destiny 2 as Administrator
- Manually uninstalled and reinstalled BattlEye via Install_BattlEye.bat
- Killed all Destiny2.exe and BattlEye processes before each launch attempt
- Checked BattlEye service in services.msc (set to Manual, not Disabled)
- Added Destiny 2 folder and BattlEye executables to Windows Defender exclusions
- Checked Windows Defender Protection History for quarantined files (none found)
- Checked C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\BattlEye for permission issues
- Disabled Smart App Control in Windows Security settings
- Disabled IPv6 on router
- Ran SFC /scannow — corrupt system files were found and repaired
- Ran DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth — completed successfully
- Restarted PC after all steps above
No third-party antivirus is installed. Using Windows Defender only. Wired internet connection. No VPN.
Event Viewer showed no relevant errors from BattlEye or Destiny 2 around launch attempts.
Please advise.
