Ok, lets save bungie and marathon. Let do some theory crafting.
First Destiny Classic gets sent off to another studio, no direct impact on Bungie, but keeps the IP relevant and valuable.
Now marathon, lets fix that, we double down on the hardcore base, in fact we make new maps with even harder NPC's and bigger rewards, we add elite cosmetics to everything. Every update brings one new map and at least one new enemy type.
So how do we please the PVE base? Marathon origins, we make a PVE campaign game akin to Halo explaining the story post Marathon games, lore filled, but a single shot, not a live service. Maybe a yearly/2 yearly DLC and even a pvp arena mode, but not the focus and no promise of balancing so no incentives to play but fun.
Finally we spin off remakes of the original games, in house or external. We make marathon(Extraction) the jewel in the crown, but we feed that game with the lore from the others, the enemies you meet in the marathon remake/origins you may come across in Marathon, but evolved or mutated though still familiar. we make an eco system that feeds into it's self.
And I'm not suggesting they forget Destiny, keep those remakes coming, after classic build a D2 up until Shadowkeep, then a D2 darkness and light that covers shadowkeep to final shape. Keeps destiny players engaged and by the time you finish that if the marathon universe has been successful you're in a far better place to produce a D3 and maybe a very different D3 than what it would be now, maybe not a live service, maybe split it up like Marathon, maybe don't. use the knowledge you've gained. But then Bungie is a multi IP studio, just like they wanted
But those are my ideas, I'd love to hear others
