After All These Years, I'd Like to Know What I Did to Make Matchmaking Hold a Personal Grudge Against Me
Look, I understand that this can easily come across as a "woe is me" complaint, but after all these years, it still genuinely doesn't make sense to me.
To be clear, I'm not claiming to be a great PvP player. I made peace with being somewhere around average—sometimes slightly above, sometimes very much below—a long time ago. Since the 30th Anniversary, I've mostly stopped chasing performance and simply accepted that I'm not interested in whatever low-effort "free win" meta happens to be popular at the moment. I just want to play, to try to have fun and grab some loot.
That said, it's hard not to question my personal matchmaking experience.
The moment I step outside of Quickplay and try anything else, I seem to get matched against players—or entire teams of players—who have absolutely no business being in the same lobby as someone at my skill level.
Every so often, I'll get one good game. Not even a win, necessarily—just one match where I can actually participate instead of spending the entire time running for my life.
Then the system seems to decide that I've had enough fun for the day.
The reward for that one decent match is usually three to eight consecutive games where my team and me gets completely steamrolled.
"Oh, you had a good game? Better get used to seeing coordinated duos dropped into your matches for the rest of the evening. Congratulations."
And before anyone suggests taking a break: I do.
At one point, I waited thirty minutes between matches. I still ended up facing the exact same duo three times in a row. That's an hour and a half spent queueing only to repeatedly run into the same players who were clearly operating on a completely different level.
If memory serves, we even had a blueberry on our side.
Which brings me back to my original question.
After all these years, I'd genuinely like to understand how this is supposed to work.
I'm fully aware that PvP will be steadily devolving into something I have little interest in touching with a ten-foot pole. At this point, I'm not looking to become competitive. I'm simply trying to enjoy what feels like the final stretch of a mode I used to love—while enduring an increasingly miserable experience because I'm still chasing the abysmally low drop rate on that incredible Shaxx armor set.
