Granted the abilities won't be as bonkers but let me point out something that has been an ongoing issue in D2 for a long time now and everyone knows about it: handcannons.
While 180s tend to be fairly balanced with their lower Range and TTK they can be easily challenged with a multitude of different weapons.
Heavy Burst are slow, also lack Range and tend to be weirdly inaccurate.
Precision frames are similar to both with similar issues.
I'm mostly referring to the Adaptives, Aggressives and yes even the Lightweights. They have far too much Range and the most damning of all is that they take no flinch. Sure your screen might jostle a bit but the shots stay true. Even with the crit damage change for Aggressives this won't really change this fundamental problem. Even when you take something like a Lightweight 450 pulse and two pros go against each other unless it's Martlet the handcannon user will come out on top. Because a pro PvP player knows that Bungie has given all the secret sauce to these types of weapons. Factor in the exotics like Ace, Hawkmoon and even the problem child itself the Last Word and it becomes even more apparent.
They probably won't receive the proper adjustments before the development team closes shop. And I'll probably get five different Git Gud and enough Whataboutisms to fill a truck bed. Honestly that's fine. Players are allowed to say what's on their minds. The community in general knows that these weapons have been problematic since they started making major adjustments.

PVP has pretty much always been terrible. There are too many weapons and abilities to actually make it balanced and fun.

Yeah and PVP is one of many examples that Bungie just jump ship because they know what to do to fix things. They know that the decisions that they made after edge of Fate that is what led to a lot of the failures. They ignored streamers who had Early Access who told them that the portal needed to be reworked before the launch of edge of fate, and Bungie ignore them according to streamers like Fallout and Datto. I think this was the most stupidest thing on Bungie's part, because what is the point of having streamers to do Early Access if you're not going to listen to people's feedback the streamers that are being paid to voice their feedback you should be listening to them not ignoring them because you have a big ego.

Give it a rest already. Its over dude. No more changes.

31 RepliesSo PVP is bad because handcannons are in the game? You must have never liked PVP, because PVP has ALWAYS had handcannons.
-
6 RepliesThe void soul buff seems like it was a decision solely based on 3v3s. That is going to be annoying in 6v6. Things that hinder movement never go over well with the community and Bungie never learns.

Pvp is the least of my concerns for this game. Destiny pvp has always and will always be a casual mode. You cant take this game seriously when hitboxes are as big as a mountain and you can land headshots with your eyes closed. Ability spam and invisibility crutch are also a thing. There are far better pvp games out there and miles more balanced and competitive than destiny. This game has always been a casual game through and through and personally? I want it to stay that way.

2 Replies"pro pvp player" 😂 If it's left in a hand cannon meta, freakin amazing. Beats the hell out of it getting left in a sidearm meta.

Holy mid player Copium take

PvP is just fine otherwise, but the ability spam is quite heavy. They are nerffing abilty spam tho so I think that the new state of pvp will be refreshing.
-
Yep hand cannons are OP or the martlet in crucible. I can see why so many people quit in games. I just did. It was a whole team with hand cannons together and it was down to me and another guy left, so yep, f*** that. If Bungie had made a no hand cannon control mode it probably would have helped their numbers some. For the short time I've been around it seems like they missed a lot of opportunities for good changes.

5 RepliesEdited by illz: 6/6/2026 11:09:26 PM😂 hand cannons are the least problematic weapon in the franchise. You are allowing yourself to get 3 tapped. You expect to just sit in one spot and laser across the map with a pulse without any counter? Somebody peek shotting a hand cannon, dealing with bloom, flinch and aiming for your head while you sit there holding down a lane with an obnoxious pulse/ scout or ar in one spot is not problematic. Its counter play. The range of hand cannons is perfectly feasible. Go use one if theyre that problematic and farm people… its that easy right? The people farming you with a handcannon would farm you with a pulse. Its not about secret sauce- pulses and other weapons are the strongest theyve ever been. Learn your engagement ranges. To call last word ‘the problem child’ in 2026 is just the cherry on top to how out of touch your post is

8 RepliesThe horrible state will always exist in this game due to 3rd party devices that allow you to cheat and play outside of the intended formats of this game. It will continue to exist without indefinite bans to accounts and I.P. addresses. VPN's shouldn't be allowed. This game needs full player transparency for PvP to remotely run correctly along with a dedicated to actively monitoring gameplay and algorithmic data.

Destiny 2 pvp is the best pvp there is. Players can develop such good skills, because the pvp matches are so consistent. I would recommend Destiny 2 to everyone who wants to play a real competitive and a fair pvp game. -
1 ReplyEdited by intraket: 6/7/2026 8:43:50 AMLmao hand cannons are not even the problematic weapon type right now get a clue man. I thought you were gonna bring up ability spam being a known issue which is only about to get much worse. You mentioning hawk moon which hasn’t been a good choice for so long proves you have zero idea what’s meta. Game is overrun by pulses like redrix martlet outbreak horrors least so many good pulses, or invis sidearms rat king trav chosen, fusions or blinking glaives with Astrocyte, scouts in the back ofc. god i wish you were right i love hawkmoon miss using it, but do you know what range is? Yea… hawkmoon has old HC stats with 65 range at best, you dont have a chance in this meta dominated by pulses rewarding body shots.

Just like D1s? Where the meta left off with No land beyond and side arms?

I approach a D2 PVP match like this (thought it might help your mindset for focusing too much on #s, meta, mix/maxing, fixating on shi!..etc): Note: this is for Control/6s/IB (more casual/testing).. cause Comp and Trials are different... more on that in the spoiler:
Comp & Trials >> its a 3s competition and you throw down your best.. comes what may... Comp gives you rank-based chance at fairness (really lookin forward to testing myself finally with the full array of weapon/armor reward available there come June 9...) Trials is heavily weighted for stacks and I being a solo freelancer would need to up my skills considerably to even have a chance of complaining.. but I wont because that left passage is brilliant even for PVE folks. You will have a chance to test yourself but weapons are dropping.. its still fun.. you get to experience trials. Take the right passage when you are ready. Huge choice of weapons and armor coming here as well.. we are eatin good now in PVP land.
so this is for most everything other than Comp/Trials (kinda my rules of play): #1 the balance, sbmm, connections & cheaters --- thats gonna be RNG to the player pop, that exact time of day, and your life's RNG for having a chance of having a fun game. This is not always black and white.. but sometimes it sucks.. there are phases.. leave.. chill out go do something else if you feel this is the current state because there is no fighting that. #2 I do not care about the META, the optimal TTKs, MIN/Maxing, buildcrafting... these are secondary to my fun (cause I don't find them fun or interesting) because I want to test myself with all weapons. Remember this is not for Trials and Comp... so the match especially 6s should allow for a much bigger breadth of weapons being viable. I refuse to believe (because then I wouldn't play) that one weapon will dominate. I want to try them all.. I am the weapon.. that little colorful box that I slot into my character that displays some gun is a neat testing item for me.. I am trying to test it to see if it deserves a spot in my vault (and I label them thus in DIM) and that gets updated. Some I keep because while it/I performed badly its "supposed" to be a godroll.. but often times I delete immediately even mid-game.. since I am ready with another weapon to test right there. addendum to #2 So its all great that my fellow D2 nerds are worshipping the TTK values.. and saying oh well for me to have a chance I gotta use that.. ending everything at paperwork/spreadsheet of values.. instead of just testing/trying (empirical) what you want to try because you like the feel of that weapon you see a path to making it work.. that would be fun for you. I'm not sure why everyone like to get herded into a certain way of play... who is judging you.. especially now, lol.. trust me you are not hitting the TTK over 50%. #3 thats why I continue to try to get players to use a variety of weapons... yes theres occasionally that one Hawkmoon user in a lobby that has thousands upon thousands of kills on that weapon just having no challenge in that match.. and they go into the next match no challenge.. these are brainless bots.. they have no need to capture CPs they are just decimating every match (thinking they are PVP gods).. I think we have to actually feel sad for them.. what kind of person finds this the enjoyable way to play? The approaches here are to have your swap ready to counter (even in casual match.. blah.. but I think will do this more) or to leave.. I'm not staying in that match grouping (how you stay with relatively the same folk in Control games).. cause I'm not there to be farmed by a bot.
Note: yes I do not decide whats fun for people but I think your IQ is low if you stick to the same thing in tons of matches in a row.. you are a simpleton.
Wrap it up dude... I think PVP is the most continuously fresh thing in this game.. we are gonna be eating good in PVP (so many weapons/armor and modes out there Jun9).. so I hope everybody does find their place where its worthwhile and fun for them... I believe that Bungie is keeping an eye to make sure the update goes smoothly for a few weeks at least. Definitely some things to worry about (mythoclast... new stuff not being balanced..etc).. but overall I think it will play well. -
What incentive do they have to leave PvP in a good state in a free to play game with no future content? They don't want you to be happy playing D2 PvP for free, they want you to switch to Marathon and give them money.
-
My only issue is the ridiculous matching. I’m not the best player in the world. Why do I have always the worst players on my team that can’t shoot or use common sense? And why do people who know they’re bad at PvP play trials? What a joke!
-
It’s the most unbalanced and chaotic sandbox I have ever played and all it takes is an actual team of competent developers to fix it. Can’t stop going for cloud strikes and 7th columns though. It’s the only thing that is fun in this game anymore.
-
Yeap...cause they want you to play Maracrap.

Edited by Griever: 6/7/2026 7:45:57 AMHeavy burst actually can do full damage up to almost 40 meters with only 60-70 range. But as you said, they're inaccurate, not to mention they have aim assist like a 120. 180s kill that slowly to balance out their ease of use, they only need 2 crits 2 body I think while every other hand cannon (not including damage perks or weapon stat investment) require PERFECT ACCURACY to achieve their optimal ttks. And probably all the ones you'll see in pvp are the ones that can 3 tap thanks to specific damage perks and/ or stat investment. Adaptives are meant to be the middle ground between lightweights and aggressives. But typically lack the stability/ flinch resistance of lightweights as well as the aim assist in exchange for more forgiving accuracy cones. Lightweight is only unique to like 2 or 3 hand cannons unless they're bringing back more we don't know about. Those 3 currently being Rose, Solemn Lie I think is the new comp hand cannon next season, and Spare Rations next season. As for their flinch, that's because of their stability and their AA all being like 83 on the low end to make up for their lower range compared to what you'll typically see on 140s and 120s. Aggressives are getting nerfed so they'll also require perfect crit accuracy for a kill, yet they have the lowest aim assist and stability, but are designed for longer ranges. Players wanting faster or easier kills will need specific perks or stat investment. Otherwise, they're better off with any other frame. Hand cannons are MEANT to be peek shot and duelist weapons, why shouldn't weapons designed for a specific purpose excel when their optimal conditions are met? People can try and say they're easy to use or they're too forgiving, but that's because of their high aim assist, the fact that missing one shot is more punishing than any other weapon, and the fact their recoil flips the gun up like it does. I can guarantee if every other weapon had recoil like that, they'd all get those same advantages and everyone would say they're more broken. Now consider people who might try to spam crouch shooting you with a hand cannon. It changes the position of the weapon and blocks the target more and believe it or not, SIGNIFICANTLY reduces stability and recoil direction for handguns. A problem no other weapon type has. You're complaining over nothing. The closest to a valid complaint anyone ever has about hand cannons is how wide their magnetism cones are, and why shouldn't they be that wide when they kill slower than almost every other weapon, are more punishing for missed crits, and have recoil like Desert Eagles unless you have like 80 stability which usually means you're sacrificing a lot of range without perks like Keep Away? Shoot first, better accuracy, and better gun for the distance, you win. That's how it's supposed to be in every shooter. Nothing can be said about hand cannons and how they're "OP" that doesn't already apply for other weapons. And really? You're even complaining about Ace, Hawkmoon, and TLW? * Ace has the lowest AA of all 140s, loses range with MM, requires to never switch off of it if you intend to make full use of it, got nerfed in EOF so it can't 1 crit 2 body while buffed, and has the lowest stability of all hand cannons you'll see in pvp. * Hawkmoon's only redeeming stat is it's 93 aim assist. It has the mag capacity of a 120, still suffers a bug that can prevent stack build up, and unless you have 100% head shot accuracy will force you to use holster mods * And TLW, a weapon that suffers 2-4 ghost bullets in almost every fight anyone uses it in. I can't think of any other explanation how red reticle (which should mean you're in the optimal range) and aiming at or above head level in a game with bullet magnetism won't hit the target. That 0.53 ttk means nothing if you're using 67-100% more ammo than actually necessary every fight even with 3 targeting mods, 3 unflinching mods, and RDM. Yeah. Skill issue. 100%.

For example lobby balance is nonexistent even in control with sbmm Iv had 4 back to back mercy games in a row and about 10-15 mercy games just today, that should not be happening with sbmm. Also abilities like freeze and suspend have no business being in a pvp environment. And lastly the weapons balancing is a joke the martlet and high tyrant out class almost every other weapon in the game and also last word is a MASSIVE PROBLEM it’s practically a heavy weapon with primary ammo (and before anyone says last word isn’t a problem and takes “skill” u got jokes last word is free af.) Pvp is and will always be the only true replayable content in d2 and the fact bungie has ruined and neglected pvp for as long as they have makes me not want a d3. Bungie is beyond incompetent at anything involving pvp they can’t even make remotely decent maps for pvp anymore. Bungie is a joke of a company and the leadership should have been fired years ago.

All I want for PvP is Fireteam based matchmaking removed and whatever criteria is used to put the worst players in the lobby on my team while against me are team of good players. I’m not the best in the world and can’t carry two bot walking fellas every other game.
