The core problems of D1 still exist in D2, so why would D3 be any different?
- Power Creep obsoleting old stuff
- Lack of replayable activities (besides Crucible)
There are a lot of other issues, hut I think D3 could probably solve a lot of them. Unfortunately, the issues mentioned above won't be solved by a D3

Quake4 did a good job, I thought! 4x difficulty levels. Each level got somewhat harder…with access to better weapons. By the time I got to run the hardest difficulty, I knew the runs…knew the pitfalls…and I had some pretty wicked weapons to play with, and yet - the game still had one or two surprises in store! It wasn’t a cakewalk by any stretch! And it was fun to play, too…all of it! HALO Reach had the zombie challenge…how many rounds can you survive? In my case, not many! WarFrame had a PvP element, though hardly anyone bothered with it. D1 - we ran Raids nonstop…for gear / weapons…and for the sheer fun of it! We leaned into the ‘space magic’ big time! The PvP aspect was good, too…and IB was another great source for gear / weapons, too…and we leaned into that, too! Trials was a fun gamble for many of us…to see if we could make it to 3- or 5 wins for the loot. Going flawless was only for the hardcore ninjas. That said, there were ‘carry raffles’ to be won, offered by Streamers for subscriptions / clicks / likes…which later became a lucrative sideline for a handful of paid carry opportunities…milked to the nth degree by some unscrupulous creatures. Things were getting ridiculously out of hand… Then came The Scarab Lord et al…the Sunset debacle…and D2…and the death of ‘space magic’… Friends Lists evaporated overnight. Players left in droves. Our vault was destroyed. Content was removed and buried away. Everything changed…for the worst. And BHQ began its ongoing campaign of gaslighting and Radio Silence… We, the Community, called them out on everything shady that we saw…we pleaded for change…to no avail…and things went from bad to worse…they were determined to kill the Destiny golden goose - that’s what we said, loud and clear, and often… BHQs response: cue <crickets> Numbers dwindled. PvP remained a constant…even though cheaters became more evident and blatant. Many more were using modded controllers and other exploits purchased online. BHQ turned their anger towards anyone who dared even to mention those exploits by name…utterly ridiculous! Blah! Blah! Blah! …and here we be: D2 Support ends on June 9…emotions are running high…some misguided creatures are venting at Marathon and those that play it…conversely, for many, nostalgia and rose-tinted binoculars are the order of the day! The Petition is around 300,000+ Even some VAs have voiced their support! In the aftermath of Sony’s announcement, we’ve learned that a core group of very senior C Suite executives had enacted a ‘pump and dump’ operation - allegedly, which a desperate Sony paid an eye-watering $3.6 billion to buy the BHQ lemon…with most of that money going into the pockets of the few, ie, The Core Ownership Group, allegedly?!…and those golden rats jumped ship at the first opportunity! Check out the vids of Bellular News 👈 So, we were right all along! 🙄 Moving on… Sony and Live Service dreams are a laughing stock…and are done and dusted. There’s no going back…or forward to D3, imho. That said, I could see a Far Eastern enterprise taking up the broken bits of Destiny, and building things afresh. Their own domestic audience is more than enough to support the idea. I’ve already posted about this. The positive response by the Guardian community are a ready-made bunch of customers eager to support a fresh initiative…even if the D3 variant takes years to bring to market. If D2 has enough to keep players happy until then…well, it’s a no-brainer, really - especially to a forward thinking company of means! 🤔 Build it…and we’ll be there! 👈 ITMT: rivers cried…hopium puffed…come what may, eyes up, Guardians! 🫡 That is all. Play Fair! Play Nice! Play for Fun! 👈👈 Ease Springs! 🖖👻 MTFBWY PS BE NICE TO MARATHON PLAYERS…IT’S JUST A GAME!

-There would be no old stuff to powercreep. There wasn't moving from D1 to 2. Idk why they would decide to bring everything forward this time. That would be very dumb. -How do we know there would be nothing replayable? It's not even a real game lol.

I disagree. It's the best idea. Sony should disband Bungie, create new studio with best former Bungie's employers and make a new game. Not continuation or something. Completely new game like Destiny Rising did. New engine, new ideas, new stuff.

A core problem of D2 is its bloated (even with content vaulting and sunsetting). D1 doesn’t have that problem. D1 has a more complete experience from start to end and all content is available to play (apart from events). I much prefer the idea of a new sequel every 3-5 years than D2’s endless churn and hasty efforts to introduce something shiny and new (at the expense of building and improving replayable activities). Hardly surprising it’s not sustainable. I think the best thing Bungie/Sony could do right now is take their time to figure out how to move the IP forward. They need to rely less on nostalgia and recycling, and focus more on quality, less on quantity. I know a lot of people want D2 to be their “forever” game, but not me.

Edited by SpunChii: 6/1/2026 9:34:46 AMYour points and concerns about the sequel is valid. Why would the people who has shown time and time again that they don't learn from their mistakes and doesn't even have a clear view of what they want their own game to be. Why would they all of the sudden change ? Sadly right now you are not allowed to criticizes the game or show any sorts of doubt in the developers. Right now it is all about love, rainbow, sunshine and unicorns.

IMHO…..STFU

If Bungie announce a new IP, I suspect it will be a single player experience. As for D3, that's not happening.

Good thing D3 isn't happening

Purple pit thousands of hours into ten game playing the same PvE content over and over. It just gets harder to do when new loot becomes undesirable after you’ve obtained so much good stuff already. The franchise needs a starting poring for new people and former players to join. D2 ain’t it.

Plus the sheer costs and resources to make it with no guarantee of success and its starting to look like Sony are regretting their live service push after what 8 failed projects that didn't even get past incubation or early development
