May D2's BattlEye Proton (Linux) support finally be toggled to allow?

I want Destiny to be accessible for a long time to come. As it stands, in order to play Destiny 2 (or Marathon), you must be on Windows 10 or 11, with W10 ending extended security support this October, 2026. Given that Destiny 2 is capable of running on Linux systems, as a last push to make the game as accessible as possible, for as long as possible, I request that Destiny 2's BattlEye configuration be toggled to ALLOW Proton support. With increased and rather frequent repetition, we see attacks on personal freedoms and safety, recently and most notably in the form of requiring a government ID to use your own computer if it does not running an open-source operating system. We want the player-base community numbers to remain strong, right? That can't happen if the only operating system that Bungie games run on is the one that people are leaving to due being tired of consistent enshittification and wanting to stand up to mass-surveillance, especially when the alternatives make their games run more smoothly. I know for myself, Marathon and D2 are the only reasons I haven't nuked my Windows 10 installation yet, and I don't plan I using Windows 11, despite loving both of those games dearly. Bungie has always prided itself on inclusive behavior and uplifting communities, both through action directly and indirectly. I believe this is at odds with the way that governments want to make systems like Windows unsafe to use in regards to privacy, important both for "normal" people and at-risk (of being targeted, such as LGBTQ+ folk) who cannot, or simply are too fed up to justify being forced to keep using Windows just for a game. Though I expect this long requested change will not happen, resulting in myself and many others slowly leaving Bungie games, I still graciously thank you for your time and consideration, even simply passing this on. This longshot request being finally granted would mean heaploads to myself and the gaming community as whole, even for those who think it would make no difference. • First, battleye isnt the only anticheat bungie uses, even if it was, to use on proton it is gimped and made more ineffective by not being kernal level. Second, even if both of those were not a factor, supporting on another OS (or 32 flavors of os all saying they are linux) takes more than just anticheat. They have to actually support the game there. Face facts, bungie is reducing support not increasing. Then you have the actual cheat issue, which is already bad it would only be enhanced on linux. It was bad enough to chace Apex Legends off the platform after they tried. Add to that, linux is a super small market share, with even fewer gamers, and fewer still destiny players, there just is not enough juice for the squeeze.

 • I haven't played since Sept 2024. The upcoming updates sound pretty cool and I'd like to reinstall the game, if only to pay my respects on June 9. But nope, playing on Linux is a bannable offense. Battleye is compatible with Proton, but Bungie seems to think that the only people who use Linux are hackers. I just wanted Windows 11 off my PC, and now I'm not allowed to play D2, or Marathon for that matter. You'd think they'd try to expand their playerbase as much as possible, but I guess not.

 • The latest Steam Survey shows that 93% of players still use Windows; despite claims of people leaving the platform, the percentage actually increased since the last survey. Furthermore, Bungie isn't the 'inclusive, uplifting' company some believe it to be. If you read their Terms of Service (TOS), they have effectively made it a bannable offence to play if you require certain accessibility aids. For example, a neural implant used to replace the functionality of a paralyzed limb could result in a ban. Even though their TOS claims accessibility aids are accepted, an implant that allows a disabled person to reach or exceed 'elite' reaction times would be flagged as an 'unfair advantage.' Under their current rules, using an external device to gain an advantage applies regardless of medical necessity, even if it is the only physical way for that person to interface with a computer.
