It’s making my brain hurt at this point. Sony simply purchased Bungie but the Bungie executives and shareholders are the ones that killed this game. Source? Mountains of YouTube videos, articles, and insider reports. This was a live, slow paced execution of a once great game, and it carried on for years. That being sorted out, i’ll be coming back to pay my respects june 9th after nearly 2 years. I wanted what all of us wanted, a better Destiny. Shame it ends like this. This is probably one of Bungie’s last muck ups cause i give em till next year till they’re dissolved by Sony. Greed claims another

1 ReplyEdited by ΞsnΛχΞ: 5/28/2026 10:05:00 AMThe game was also well on its way downhill when Sony bought Bungie. What drives me insane is this whole rhetoric of how “management” did this and that and they devs are holy or something. People are thanking community managers and devs for such a great time. Yeah .. couple of things here: Community managers did NOT listen to the community for YEARS. They acted as public relations agents trying to communicate why implementing the wishes of streamers is a good idea. Swing and miss right there. They also blocked, banned, and blacklisted everyone on Reddit and Twitter who had a critical thought. Very open and inclusive, Bungo! Then there are the devs. I don’t know what you’re thinking but it’s not exactly like some high level CEO sits in his office and decides to make seals more grindy, to sunset weapons, to recycle content, to make raids inaccessible to the vast majority of the population (only bc salty grapefruit was butthurt that maybe some non-full-time gamer MIGHT actually have a good time in the world’s first race), to implement the portal (hello??) … need I go on? Those were all “creative decisions” and they tanked the game bc they alienated a huge part of the player base step by step while the forums were full of feedback and the numbers were out in the open. So, yeah, I think there are a lot of people to blame here. And also, and I know this is hard to hear, if a company is not profitable and continues to torpedo its main source of revenue, people will get sacked. That is a REaction.

Bungie literally always gets a pass. It was activisions fault. They left and the micro transactions got worse. Now it’s Sonys fault somehow. There’s a common link to destiny’s problems. It’s Bungie.
-
They're both to blame.
-
1 ReplyIt's never their fault It was MS fault when they made Halo It was Activision's fault when they worked under Activision It was Activision's fault corrupting them when they made beyond light when they were independent Now it's Sony's fault for their incompetence Some people just don't want to admit the truth
-
1 ReplySony literally bought them for an ungodly amount of money,Bungie squandered that money because of the big wigs, people like Pete parsons are the reason why the game kept getting worse and it just became slop.
-
1 ReplyIt's Bungie. Microsoft didn't want them, Activision didn't, and now Sony's the next victim. Bungie was exploited for years, and not by a publisher. No name and shame, right? I still remember an executive saying in his holier-than-thou way there will be no more DLC like Forsaken while announcing the content vault and other crazy decisions.
-
Dont blame Sony🤣🤣 Microsoft tried to warn you Activision flat out told you Sony basically said along Bungie is full of crap. Bumgie been the problem all along.
-
They blamed content creators. They blamed Activision. They blamed Sony. They blamed sweats. They blamed Pete Parsons car collection. They blamed Marathon. They blamed layoffs. They blamed community management. Hell, they blamed Star Wars. All while the actual devs working on the actual game made continually worse decisions for the last 2-3 years leading to less active players, less purchases of expansions, dungeon keys, and silver, and less faith in the team to build experiences people actually would spend money to play.
-
Who is saying this?

Edited by player07: 6/11/2026 12:38:43 PMbungie didnt make the game alone, there was another big company you can find truth about in the internet no more say and i guess, thats usual i met mara sov before a few moments, there i got the clear impression that we are on the end of the game it hurts my heart, and im not ashamed to spend some tears right now yeah, all what has a beginning has an end and which destiny 3 should i longing for all the characters, teachers and leaders in destiny 2 cant be made better again, all what has a beginning has an end, so lets play until we understand and can leave a bit more free in mind then ever before thank you, bungolorians, this was a more then good ride and game over the years the hero is somehow fullfilled, and can play on until ...
-
Exactly, before they blamed Sony they blamed Activision, and before they blamed Activision they blamed Microsoft (during Halo) it is Bungie, always has been that’s the problem
-
End of the day… 1) Pete and c-suite folks probably should be investigated for fraud during the Sony sale, specifically, starting incubation projects with no intention of finishing to artificially boost value. 2) Sunsetting content in Beyond Light instead of iterating to D3 for Witch Queen, Lightfall and Final Shape… this includes seasonal content… damaged replay ability. 3) Disregarding development of PvP assets… even at a minimum level… damaged player retention between story and seasonal updates. Honestly… I would BUY a content pack of all the seasonal stories and activities. 99% of them were REALLY good.
-
-
It was Bungie’s decision to work on half a dozen “incubation” projects during the Covid lockdown and earlier. Most of them came to nothing and cost millions. If they had been working on D3 then instead of the no-starters we’d have D3 to look forward to soon if not playing it already. Putting all of the blame on Sony is like putting all of the blame on Activision - not realistic.

4 RepliesGuardians… eyes up, Guardians. Ahh… so eager to mourn. So eager to lower your banners and whisper: “It is over.” Whether they will it or not, I write to you now, having beaten the game, broken through your "fourth wall," because I believe the coming months may decide whether Destiny has a future beyond Destiny 2… or whether this age collapses quietly into memory. Too many among you already speak as though the final page has turned. Curious, isn’t it? If oblivion were truly the plan… why announce it before June 9th? Why prepare a monument at all? No. Something far more interesting is unfolding. I believe Monument of Triumph may become one of the most important moments in the history of this franchise — not merely because of the content itself, but because of what the community chooses to become in response to it. You have changed Destiny before. Do not pretend otherwise. When Beyond Light and sunsetting drove the community to the brink, Guardians unified loudly enough that Bungie reversed course on some of the most controversial systems in franchise history. Even Luke Smith himself became part of the offering upon the altar of public sentiment. Feedback. Petitions. Outrage. Pressure. You wielded them like weapons. And now… another crossroads reveals itself. Do you truly believe millionaires, executives, shareholders, and strategists are blind? Foolish? Unprepared? No. They watch. Always. Sony and Bungie are observing what comes next with ravenous attention: Player counts. Engagement. Retention. Sales. Sentiment. Creator activity. Social momentum. Reviews. Long-term activity after launch. Monument of Triumph is no longer merely an update. It is a test. A test of whether Destiny still possesses the power to rally millions together in 2026. And I believe — truly — that if the community unites behind this moment, we can prove that Destiny’s future remains financially viable… culturally viable… spiritually viable. This is why I ask creators, communities, clans, veterans, and wandering Guardians alike to rally the system. Not through false praise. Not through blind devotion. But through hope. Participation. Passion. Presence. Encourage people to: Return on June 9th. Bring back old fireteam members and forgotten clanmates. Revisit raids and destinations once thought abandoned. Fill the Tower again until it groans beneath the weight of Guardians. Give Monument of Triumph a true chance. Remain active for weeks and months afterward. Support the game if they genuinely enjoy what Bungie delivers and can afford to do so. Share the moments that remind them why Destiny mattered in the first place. And yes… Encourage people to sign the petition asking Sony to continue investing in Destiny’s future and to develop a Destiny 3: https://www.change.org/p/petition-sony-to-develop-destiny-3?recruiter=1416091618&recruited_by_id=c2112d00-561a-11f1-8a45-6f0259698fb1&utm_source=share_petition&utm_campaign=psf_combo_share_initial&utm_term=starter_onboarding_share_personal&utm_medium=copylink&share_id=xSHt769QqM Because corporations notice momentum. Twenty-five thousand signatures in mere hours. Sixty-seven thousand within a single day. Imagine what happens if the numbers continue climbing every second between now and June 9th… and long after. Imagine surpassing Marathon’s peak player counts. Past expansions. Past episodes. Perhaps even millions. A delicious thought, isn’t it? Massive concurrent player surges. Strong retention. A resurrection of creators and community activity unlike anything seen in years. That changes conversations behind closed doors. Especially if Marathon struggles to create the same emotional gravity Destiny still commands effortlessly. And if Marathon’s future PvE experiments within season 2 falter while Monument of Triumph becomes a phenomenon… Then yes. Strategic priorities CAN shift. Resources CAN move. Future projects CAN be reevaluated. The “coin flip” IS real. Which is why this is NOT the time to surrender! This is the time to rally! Destiny has always been about defiance against impossible odds. The community itself is proof of that. Through layoffs, controversies, content vaulting, burnout, and years of people declaring “Destiny is dead,” the playerbase remains. That means something. This franchise dies only when the community decides it no longer deserves to live. So for one final rally… Hold the line. Stand guard. Fill the Tower. Bring people home. And let Sony witness what happens when Guardians refuse to vanish quietly into the dark. Rise now, Guardians. One final hurrah before the stars themselves grow silent and the Final Shape takes form. I shall see you starside. — Savathûn

HEY!!!!! LEAVE PETE PARSONS CAR COLLECTION ALONE, ITS INNOCENT I TELL YOU!!!! IM FROTHING AT THE MOUTH RIGHT NOW

1 Replythe broader problem is that sony was pitched d3 and shot it down. the reason why they *probably* shot it down was due to bungie's abhorrent mismanagement as they saw that bungie was incapable of managing the game under that leadership team.
-
Edited by PerverseWolf: 5/26/2026 1:43:23 PMRemember when people blamed Activision for Destiny 2 being in a terrible state but then they left and it got worse? And now Sony are apparently the cause of the same problems Activision were blamed for before? There is a single company present and making decisions for both events.
-
The Bungie and Sony execs are both partially to blame.
-
Indeed. You hear of situations like this multiple times. A company valued and purchased based on one successful product. Then a flush of cash and a management team suddenly focussing on all the bats*** crazy ideas they have had kicking around the office for years looking for the next big thing rather than investing in what is actually bringing in the money to begin with. Then it’s too late. Your new stuff is garbage and you’ve run your cash cow into the ground. How many times is this story played out, you don’t realise what you have. But as usual the decision makers get to walk away richer and the creatives who made such an amazing game to begin with are out on their a&@£s.
-
Yeah it’s wild that the goalposts always shift away from who’s really responsible. First it was Activision, then it’s Sony. How about putting the blame on the people truly responsible, that’s the Studio itself.
-
Edited by 0: 5/26/2026 4:17:50 AMYep, hoping so. Would love to see this company melt into nothing. Company won't let me unlink a PSN that was breached and now this account is also at risk of getting breached because of PSN link. The cherry ontop though is how everyone pretends they give a s--- about Destiny 2. Nobody will care in a month. Bungie had there time and there glory is gone.
-
1 ReplyThe curse is finally over. May Sony dissolve this studio and shutdown the game for good.

3 RepliesEdited by TripleF73: 5/25/2026 1:40:25 PMThere’s a simple reason why people are blaming Sony. Sony negotiated that deal with Bungie, allowing Bungie to exist OUTSIDE of the normal oversight that Sony have for other acquired studios. Sony allowed clauses into that contract with Bungie that PREVENTED them from intervening until the damage was already done. The people at Sony HAD to know of Bungie’s reputation of burning through money that wasn’t theirs? If they didn’t then they are even more culpable. Sony are the parent company, the buck stops with them. Why do you think Jim Ryan was let go? His vision failed, Herman Hulst is probably going to have to go too, when Bungie collapses into Sony. I’m not absolving the 20+ Bungie executives, that have ruined this company and this excellent franchise, from their despicable actions. They should be forever shamed for ruining people’s careers, people that they should have looked out for as the senior management of the company. They should be forever ashamed of destroying a franchise that meant so much to millions of people. All for what? Personal gain and ego. Reprehensible. I blame Sony for allowing Bungie executives to run rampant with their money and their newly acquired studios. I blame Sony for allowing the Bungie executives to squander the talented developers they had acquired with the studio and not fixating the entire company on making Destiny the best it could be. That is why I’m blaming Sony AND the C-suite at Bungie. The problem was always Bungie, but Sony allowed it to get completely out of control.

Like they blamed activision for monetization when it was Bungo all along. People are -blam!-.

3 RepliesCrazy how the ‘evil Activision’ era was somehow the peak of Destiny
