I, like many others, am sad at the news of D2 ending and even more sad at some of the negative speculation that it could be the end of the Destiny franchise. I’ll be the first to admit that I haven’t played as consistently in recent years as I used to but I never stopped following the game, enjoying the surrounding content, and even popped back in a few times.
One of the reasons I stopped playing as consistently is that mid-tier, grind-able content and content that naturally brought the community together (good strike playlists you wanted to spend a few hours in or engaging destination activities/6 man matchmade activities) didn’t feel the same for me in the most recent expansions and content drops. Also I’m in my mid 30s now and not my 20s like when Destiny came out so I simply don’t have the same amount of time available to play. Those are the type of activities that could keep me engaged when I don’t have time to or can’t find a team to do a raid, grandmaster strike, or other endgame activities but still letting me know I’m not playing alone.
With that being said, the feel of Destiny between the gunplay and power fantasy offered by the abilities is great, hasn’t been replicated by anybody else, and to me is something worth preserving. I plan to play after the last content drop on June 9th because I was here since the D1 beta and if this is it I’m going to play till the end…I hope enough of the community feels the same way and we can bring in numbers that show the people making the decisions that continuing the Destiny IP is worth it. So yeah, I’d play a D3 or any future console/PC release that delivers the same gameplay experience we’ve come to know and love and keeps the world of Destiny alive.
