I just heard the news and for context I was someone who stopped playing just around the release of Beyond Light when Bungie implemented sun-setting, peeked in once sometime later but uninstalled the moment I saw how empty the game felt. Decided that I'd just wait until the game is in a state where it's finally stopped receiving updates and I can catch up on what I've missed without all the FOMO, and while doing so played D1 on PS3 to scratch that itch whenever I felt the need to play the game again. While playing D1 though with a few people it was difficult not to miss what it felt like playing the Leviathan raids and going through the Last wish, farming bright well for loot and so on and while Shadowkeep was a mess Beyond Light and onward are a blur to me only have a general sense of the story.
But now that Bungie is finally done pushing out seasonal content for the game I wanted to know if you'd think with all the expansions, dungeons, story content and the PVP that a full experience could be had if someone jumped into the game currently? Especially if it's beyond light and onward I'm not sure how much more they shelved in the vault. How does the balance feel with each of the classes (I main Titan) and while I don't expect the raid scene to be welcoming do people still enjoy doing the raids that are out right now? Waiting until June to see what the final bundle looks like before purchasing and dipping my toes in again.
Also CHRIST why is the game 150 GB on PC??

So honestly if the changes they are talking about really come true the way they sound. It almost feels like it might be another age of triumph like in D1 but at the same time making the game feel more like D1 but with the destiny 2 sand box. Honestly I'm really excited for this but also feel sad that it's the last one. For a player who hasn't played since beyond light there will be a mountain of things for you to do with some of the best content they've ever made since forsaken like the witch queen or the final shape. And as for raids it's way easier to find a raid team and the new epic raid was unlike any other raid they've done personally I loved it and thought it live up to the name an epic raid. As far as how the balancing feels if you mean crucible I couldn't tell you I don't touch crucible and as for the game in PvE it depends on the content. A Titan shouldn't have any issue feeling good though

3 RepliesD2's biggest crux is the fact that it is a Live Service Game to begin with. When all of the significant events, whether they are big like the Sundial and Corridors of Time or small like Crimson Days or the Traveler Reformation Event, are summarized as "you had to have been there", there really is disparity between what long-term and veteran players experience and value compared to New Lights and those who only hopped on within the last 2-3 years.

1 ReplyD1 is the more complete game than this spliced together, Frankenstein version of destiny that lost its identity.

1 ReplyThe problem is that despite all the campaigns from Shadowkeep on still being in the game, you lose out on a lot of the narrative with the seasonal activities missing. Lots of narrative buildup in those. But, like you, I was away for a while. I left during Curse of Osiris and didn’t come back until Season of the Witch. There’s a lot of story to play through with the expansions. Beyond Light was okay. Which Queen is good. Lightfall sucks. Final Shape is great. If you can get the content highly discounted, it’s worth it if you enjoy Destiny. Even now with them ending the game. If you’re able to get the basic understanding of the story through those campaigns and are willing to get narratives from seasonal stories via other means, the gameplay itself is still fun and will kill quite a bit of your free time. I’d say the other concern will be the dwindling player base, especially for raids and dungeons. I think some people will do Pantheon initially but that it will get stale quickly and the other raid and dungeon content won’t really do much with the players either.
