Game Crashing - Xbox Series X

ISSUE: Game crashes ramdomly on Xbox Series X; This issue started after the Edge of Fate expansion. Mostly common pattern: Game screen freezes, console button blinks and game closes back to the home screen. Sometimes the game screen freezes and the console shuts down. Game freezes ramdomly at inspection screen, at orbit, at the tower and at activities. PREVIOUSLY ATTEMPTED SOLUTIONS: Console full reset and game fresh install (countless times); Reduced fps (from 120 to 60) both in game and on console config; Reduced in game volume ADDITIONAL INFO: Xbox Series X updated to the last system version. In every game crash, there’s no console warning about overheating. The console crashes only when Destiny 2 is running. Other games like FC26 does not crash. TV display is a Samsung QN43QN90BAGXZD running with game mode settings on. Thank you very much.

    Layoffs coming 31st July 2026...... 👀 - old

Are you playing on WiFi? Or a good way away from your router? This has been a thing for a hot minute. It used to give an error code when you had internet issues, now it just closes the game to the dashboard. I've 2 Xboxes, 1 upstairs, 1 down, despite being on fibre the signal upstairs is patchy & occasionally drops out for a fraction of a second - before it was fine, I'd see a lag spike or something but I'd stay in-game, now it just closes the game to the dashboard. Downstairs Xbox is perfect on WiFi or wired, I tested & pulling my cable out causes a dashboard crash. Whilst they've changed something that causes this, in the last 6 months, it's still caused & fixed by sorting your patchy internet out - whatever you think, it's dropping out. Console turning off isn't the game, it's a safety mechanism inbuilt into the Xbox to stop damage from overheating. 99% caused by being dirty inside. Can be cleaned easily, YouTube it.

  • Hi there, Thanks for the report. Since you’ve already tried reinstalling the game, resetting the console, and lowering the framerate, the main additional step we’d recommend is fully clearing the console cache using the Clearing the Console Cache guide. It may also help to disable Quick Resume for Destiny 2 and then fully relaunch the game to see if that improves stability. If the issue continues after that, please also make sure the console has good airflow and note whether you notice any audio issues before a crash or any error messages.
