Weapon scopes was just awesome. It could completely change the way you felt about a gun.
Some scopes are just to bulky, unclear, to small or just a plain boring Iron sight.
Having the ability to choose between different scopes really helped fixing those issues.
It could just make the gun look better as well. There was a scope for everyone.
Iron sight, Acog, holographic, rifle scope. They can make the difference between liking the gun and hating it.
It really sucks that Bungie was just to lazy to optimize their stats and just removed them. I wouldn't mind if they came back as a visual only. No extra stats provided. I just don't like the scopes on some of these weapons.
Like the Third axiom is a great pulse rifle, but its scope is so condensed and it blocks out the screen.
Another bad one is the Satou focu lens for the Blast furnace. Really tiny and squished lens. Awful.

I was picking up weapons to burn glimmer and got a great PvP rolled Last Perdition with the scope that highlights the enemies. I love that type scope.

Yeah, I really hate some weapons because of their sights. My wish would be weapon crafting. When you dismantle a weapon you have a chance to get parts, like scope, mag or barrel. And then you go to banshee and build a weapon.

3 RepliesScopes used to transform the weapon considerably more than barrels do today. It could be argued that the scope on some weapons was more important than the traits even. Especially back when zoom effected the range of the weapon and its damage/aim assist drop off distance. Many early scope weapons were designed with this in mind, and once the zoom/range was flattened, those weapons dropped off quite a bit. Now the zoom really only effects the aim assist drop off and not the effective range of the weapon. I forget the website, but there was one dedicated to the sights back in D1 which held true for many early D2 weapons. It helped figure out some of the details of what sights I wanted to have on my weapons. I tended to prefer longer range options, with minimal handling reductions. Currently, there are a lot of weapons that I just dont agree with the sight, so I never use. Others that I dont agree with the sight, but the weapons element/traits are vital for a build, so I stubbornly use and curse in my head at the sight. There are also weapons that the weapon is OK, traits are average at best, but the sight is so beautiful that I want to use it all the time (looking at you Vouchsafe).

It's almost like we have a gunsmith but he doesn't do anything Man only if world building was a priority rather than gimmicks...

Yes add scope changes... I wouldn't care if scopes do nothing than just change physically what you can see due to removing them or changing the reticle... I just cannot stand some scopes... like Brya's Love scout... its better with high zoom for me but my peripheral sense is gone... ...and with that I actually thought this this.. is how you make ornaments actually functional.. it changes the scope.. debulks the gun.. minor change but obviously us PVP-nerds will geek out to it... 😂 when you get that scope that highlights enemies in it... sometimes that is so nice for pvp... staccato does that if I recall and its brutal with the right roll -
1 ReplyI'd be fine with scopes coming back as a stat-less player preference adjustment and keeping everything else about the weapon the same. Some weapon default sights are so bad, obtrusive, or misleading that being able to change them would be a huge usability boon to them. Trouble is, despite Bungie clearly having these scopes available at one point, are the "attachment" points even on the modern weapons anymore? Could they be swapped just as easily as they used to be before they were removed? We do know how Bungie functions, after all.

Sounds awesome, as you say, reintroduce this functionality without it impacting any stats, if early D2 weapons had this then it shouldn't be that big a change.

2 RepliesI think Bungie stopped releasing scopes and certain perks to make the sandbox easier to balance.
