Well a short story.
‘Jefty is Five’ by Harlan Ellison
I’m reading a collection as I wanted to read ‘I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream’ for research purposes but it came with about 15 others. All sci-fi or with a sci-fi slant; a mixed bag but overall good so far.
‘Jefty is Five’ is about a little boy who ever since the age of 5 has stayed that age (physically and mentally - as if a child stuck in time) while everybody else aged, and it’s told through the eyes of his friend who’s now in his 20s. A pretty gut-wrenching read and throws up some pretty interesting questions around our relationship with the past and living one’s life through this age of almost constant appeals to nostalgia.
Anyway, what was the last thing y’all cried at?

Samuel Barber's Adagio for Stings from the movie Platoon always gets me. I served during the Vietnam War and it makes me think of all those who died then and in the wars since.

1 ReplyJeff Buckley, Lover should have come over (the live a Sine version): “My body turns And yearns for a sleep that won't ever come It's never over My kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder It's never over All my riches for her smiles When I've slept so soft against her It's never over All my blood for the sweetness of her laughter It's never over She is the tear that hangs inside my soul forever” That last one gets me every time.

Edited by CoolHandLuke04: 4/13/2026 3:24:16 PMThe Dark Tower (Book 7 in Stephen King’s Dark Tower series) Part 2 Chapter 12 Part 3 Chapter 1 and 2. If you read this series from beginning to end and get to these chapters you’d understand. I enjoy this series so much I go through is at least once and year and I joke with my friends who’ve read it that “Maybe those chapters will be different this time so I don’t have to feel quite so disconsolate!” 😢😭

Can’t remember the last book I cried to, but I do remember two books my teacher cried to (about… 10 years go ._.) Tangerine and Walk Two Moons. Decent books too, I’m unsure if I teared up as well, if anything maybe on the latter. —- As for last thing in general… uhhh- Ah snap, of course! Claire Obscur: Expedition 33. How could I forget, literally wasn’t prepared for any of that. Phenomenal voice acting, mo-cap, and cinematography (holy smokes the cinematography). Character motives and writing too, mwuah. Beautiful. Art. (Fun gameplay too). Cried on multiple occasions, something I don’t really do, even when rewatching after finishing the game, which is also something I don’t really do. Glad I experienced it blind.

A book called "The Unlikely Ones" by Mary Brown. It's a favourite to re-read. It makes me cry every time.

Edited by The First Aifos: 4/11/2026 3:46:23 PMOh, interesting. Most stories about an immortal always deal with it from the perspective of a mortal, so it's interesting to see it the other way around. Outgrowing a friend would be a sad thig indeed. The last thing that made me cry? Hm... This song, I think. Though, to be clear, it wasn't, like, bawling my eyes out, just teary eyed. As far as things that made me, like, cry my eyes out, that's a good question... Maybe this song? That was a while ago, though. There might've been something else in between that I'm forgetting. There hasn't been a story that's made me cry in a while, though. At least, not that I recall. Something could be slipping my mind. Edit: I lied. Somehow, I forgot about Noctuary. Noctuary made me cry a couple times. It's hard to say why without spoilers, but man that game hit me pretty hard. I've been dying to talk about its story, but I can't get anyone else to play it!
