From Greatness to Repetition – What Happened to Destiny 2?

Destiny 2 used to be an amazing game, but its current state feels disappointing and worn out. What once focused on fun and discovery now seems driven mostly by monetization and repetition. In PvE, this is especially noticeable. Strikes and seasonal activities often feel like recycled content with very little variation. You end up running the same routes, fighting the same enemies, for rewards that rarely feel worth the effort. Raids and dungeons are still enjoyable, but they’ve become less special over time as Bungie reuses mechanics instead of introducing truly fresh ideas. PvP might be in an even worse spot. Balancing feels inconsistent, with certain weapons and subclasses dominating for months at a time. This makes matches frustrating and predictable. On top of that, the lack of new maps and game modes makes PvP feel stagnant, with very little meaningful evolution over the years. Content is also increasingly locked behind paywalls, while the quality doesn’t always justify the price. The gameplay loop starts to feel more like a chore than something you actually look forward to. The grind is excessive and lacks innovation. In short: Destiny 2 still has a strong foundation, but Bungie seems to have lost its direction. Without serious changes, it remains a missed opportunity. So the question is: is Bungie actually listening to its community, or has Destiny 2 become more about profit than player experience?
