Bungie- you bet on the wrong horse
This was SO predictable. Anyone who isn’t a credulous rube saw this coming, bungie and their inept gaggle of ‘professionals’ threw an inordinate amount of resources behind a pet project that had no business usurping the durable IP that was destiny.
No one will play marathon. This game and this studio is DONE. Their comeuppance is so richly deserved for how they treated their loyal player base. Looking forward to seeing where destiny goes in the hands of a competent organization. To echo the words of another poster ‘you reap what you sew’

Sad thing is the -blam!- responsible for most of Bungie’s -blam!- decisions is sitting at home counting his money and will not have to deal with any of the consequences of those decisions.

1 ReplyToo soon to tell if the game is DoA, we’ll have to wait for the sales and Day 1 player count to get a better idea. But for sure by the next week end when the full game has released if things have not popped it will be worrying. Competition is high, Crimson arrives in 2 weeks and if it’s has good as it seems it’s going to have a massive impact on sale if people have to choose.

I'm not one to ask about any PVP type game, I don't like the genre mostly because of the cheating and I'm not good it. As far as Marathon, I suppose Bungie had to come out with something new eventually, I just wish Destiny wasn't in such a bad state. If Destiny was booming, we probably wouldn't be so down on the Marathon launch. I hope, whatever the final result of Marathon is that Destiny can make a come back.

I know ppl hate the art style but I like it maybe because I play a lot of "No Man Sky"but I will agree with everyone that overtime real quickly the game will start to get boring to the point of wondering why you are still playing. For the playerbase to drop off this big is a huge Problem especially when it's a free trial I can only imagine for the ppl who bought it will play it. Flop or not Sony got some investment back from it but not enough they put into it but I did say this game won't do as good as BUNGIE and Sony hoped it would especially targeting an audience they never had.

19 RepliesSo marathon pulled what, around 150k peak players on steam? I get that it’s a free test so the bought game will have lower numbers, but I feel like a lot of live service games run under 100k players. Is it gonna slap? No. But is it gonna flop?

They should have gotten back to destiny 2 improvements and focus on ingame additions besides grind. More MMO-like features to play around in the world of Destiny because there is a lot more interesting stuff in Destiny both gameplay wise and world wise. Not to mention exceptional lore and fun if they had just leaned into it
