Bungie deliberately starved its own player base, delaying content in the hope that Marathon would quell the hunger. The strategy was obvious: make people hungry enough and they’ll swallow anything. Sour milk, stale bread — it won’t matter if they’re desperate. Marathon was supposed to be the ration tossed into the cage. What they didn’t anticipate is that many players would rather starve than eat something they see as rotten. You can manufacture scarcity, but you can’t manufacture respect. And when your audience realizes the famine was intentional, the hunger turns into contempt.

I’ve played an hour or so. Gonna begrudgingly get back in later today. Granted I don’t have a high level character, here are my negatives: TTK (too fast) Movement abilities/heating system Tutorial Looting boxes/players on controller The entire UI Perhaps my biggest gripe of all: the late 90’s Resident Evil backpack/storage system. Why? Why can’t I pick up this gun? Because it takes 4 squares. Not two, not three. Super unintuitive. Arc Raiders: weight limit. Every item has a clearly displayed weight. 0 problems. Positives: We won’t be complaining about Destiny 2 anymore. After all this time, and all the delays and feedback, this is what they’re gonna ship in a few days? Good luck. I was truly hoping this was going to be a good game, just not my cup of tea, but it’s clearly not gonna finish the 26.2 miles. Kudos to those enjoying it. They can’t run one live service; why would anyone think they could run two? Sigh…

It was the collecting. You can just see how convoluted it’s gonna get. Just want mindless gameplay, where it’s just shoot stuff, get loot. The first mission is all I did, and it was boring and uninspired.

They should have trashed their game engine and focused on D3. I would come back for D3. Marathon is just plain awful.
