Serious question btw, is that something Sony could do? Bungie looks to be treating Destiny the same way they treated Halo, they're bored with it and want to work on something new.

In all seriousness, yes, that could happen and is not uncommon at all. One of the cleanest examples of this is when Bungie left Microsoft in 2007. MSFT created 343 Industries, and they ran Halo and had a few releases afterward. In financial terms, think of it as a studio transfer or development shift rather than simply handing an asset off.
