As someone who has literally purchased every single solitary piece of Destiny content since 2014 and effectively swipes until my card declines whenever the Eververse drops something new, I really, REALLY need the slightest indicator of where this ship is sailing. I'm obsessed with the game but, I really don't know how many more TWID's even your most avid fans will justify before apathy chokes the game.

Imo Destiny is at the end of its lifecycle. The company unfortunately brought its life to a premature end and not the players. Here are the facts: Bungie separated from Activision in order to bring the owners a big bag of money. It was not to make the game better. They ultimately sold to Sony but during this transition period, they stopped making a game they loved to play bc that was somehow that was bad. They ignored a lot of what the community’s feedback was bc they needed to align the company to be “live service” as this is the major premise for selling the company. This led to a few decisions that eroded the playerbase: sunsetting content, creating cut and paste seasonal activities that became boring and essentially pushed all of Bungies sizeable resources into creating content that would disappear rather than upgrading the game. And since they decided against D3, this would be the single most wasteful decision they had ever made. During this transition they made some good content and lots of average or bad content so it showed a lack of institutional learning. They hired a lot of new people to work on the story but its clear that these people came in with a new idea of what the Bungie universe meant and further alienated players. Another theme was “make it harder” which works well for content creators but not the average xbox player. The content creators boredom with the game was a signal of overall pain in the community but somehow “from the creators of halo” could not figure out how to make the game good again, which again signalled that the creative talent was lacking or the politics in the org subverted and suppressed good ideas. Somehow making pvp maps was impossible and when they made them, they were ok or bad. They let gambit die just to make a pvpvpve game from scratch. Destiny has run its course. Moreover Sony owns Bungie and the studio will likely cause the people who did the deal to lose their jobs- I would expect sony could easily write down the investment by 500m. Ironically all Sonys due diligence team needed to do was look at the this forum to see what exactly it was buying.
Our next Major Update, Destiny 2: Shadow and Order, is undergoing large revisions and will be delayed. This update is being changed and expanded to include sizable quality-of-life updates and as a result, will also be renamed. This update will now launch on June 9, 2026. We will provide exact details closer to release covering previously announced Weapon Tier Upgrading, but also additions like expanding Tiered Gear to all Raid and Dungeon activities, Pantheon 2.0, Tier 5 stats for Exotic Armors, and more. Through June, we will continue to have routine bug fixes and stability improvements, continued portal modifiers, Guardian Games (March), and the return of a more frequent Iron Banner cadence (April).
https://www.bungie.net/7/en/News/Article/twid_02_19_2026

1 ReplyThey did say they will tell us more when they are ready. Bungie won't be ready till they are ready. If marathon flops hard it will be too late unfortunately.
