Issue with account linking

NOTE: This post is intended for a BUNGIE Support Agent. I have my PSN/XBL and an old, deleted Steam account linked under this one User ID. I have already tried to unlink the old, deleted Steam and link my current and new Steam account to be able to play Destiny and upcoming Marathon with cross-save; however, apparently that's not a thing anymore and I have to make a new Bungie Account. So, I did - I made another account with my current and up to date Steam. I have then gone to enable cross-save and this is where the confusion starts: I go to link my XBL and PSN and am met with the following message: "Existing Bungie.net Account The account you are about to link is already connected to an existing Bungie.net Profile. If you proceed, the existing Bungie profile will no longer be accessible if this was the only account connected to it. Additionally, any redeemed offers on that Bungie.net Profile will be lost." This would imply that I can unlink the XBL/PSN accounts from this current Bungie.net account which I'm posting from; however, when I click continue and then complete the authentication by typing in my username, I am met with the following: "Authentication Error Platform accounts cannot be linked to multiple Bungie profiles." Directly contradicting the previous message which asked me to confirm that I am happy to go ahead and link accordingly. My question to you, Bungie Support (and not a random fan who wants to tell me cross-save is disabled) is: If you are refusing to allow players to access cross-save functionality, are you also refusing to allow players to set up a new bungie.net profile in order to play games on that account - thus forcing players to use separate emails if they want to play on certain platforms and forgoing the benefits of cross-progression/purchase? Can this be looked into so that I can, one way or another, have my current and only Steam account linked with my XBL and PSN please? Thank you

Even though you said its for Bungie, the answer will be the same regardless of who gives it to you. The error on the 'Existing Bungie.net Account' page is out dated and hasn't been updated, there are still some things that they forgot to change like this page to reflect the linking change. As of March 25th you can no longer unlink accounts except Twitch from a Bungie profile once it has been linked to it. Bungie will not unlink it for you. You will not be able to move the accounts from one account to another, so no, you wont be able to get your intended setup. Even if the March 25th linking change was never implemented and you could still move accounts between Bungie accounts, you would not be able to do so regardless due to you having cross-save enabled. You would've needed to be able to authenticate the Steam and unless you could do so, you would've been stopped by a separate block in that Bungie had in place prior to the account linking change that preventing accounts that were in an active cross-save setup from being unlinked from that Bungie account. You can see their direct response to other people asking for this exact thing in threads such as this one.

    • Hello there,  As others have mentioned, as of March 25th 2025, Bungie no longer allows accounts to be unlinked with the exception of Twitch.
Removing or Unlinking an Authentication Method It is no longer possible to remove or unlink a platform account.
Beyond that, even before the changes to linking, it was required that you be able to login to the account to remove it. Bungie wouldnt bypass authentication and forcibly remove linked platforms.

      • As of March 25th of 2025, you can no longer unlink accounts. Unfortunately, your Xbox is permanently linked. Bungie will NOT forcefully unlink them for you.
