Now with the Marathon announcement that it's releasing March 5th, there's reports that the mid-DLC update will be delayed. Far too many of us saw this coming, but everyone wanted to bury their head in the sand.
Bungie is focusing more and more on Marathon. The sad part is, it may stay that way. Everyone should be prepared for a world where Destiny ends up even more neglected. If you look at steam right now, with preorders opening up it's at the 5th most preordered game right now. That will be enough for people at Bungie to be told to shift focus in the short term, and if Marathon finds success? That will all but guarantee that Destiny will be a legacy franchise with delayed releases, slowed updates, and even fewer people working on it to keep it going.
We're set up to see the final moments of Destiny, and it's sad how it's happening.

Crazy to imagine that ten years ago, we were experiencing peak Destiny with Taken King and Rise of Iron.

But it’s always a safe bet to predict the worst outcome as everyone will be happy if you’re wrong.

Reports from who? Tassi? He's a worthless hack. Stop looking for excuses to get angry at nothing and do something else with your life.

34 Replies5th most pre-ordered game? Did people learn nothing about bungie? I didn't expect that

1 ReplyIf this is true .. Remember this in a few months when Bungie start hyping the next batch of Destiny "content". Remember how the players who supported their only game were put to the back of the line. Now we know why we haven't seen a roadmap folks. I run a small business and cannot fathom how Bungie operate. Customer is king in my world, I have loyal customers because I treat them with respect, because they are my business. Without them my employees can't keep a roof over their head or feed their families. I never forget that. Then again, if this update is anything like Ash and Iron they're doing us a favour.

Edited by Guardian,Archon Of Light: 1/20/2026 4:08:14 AMMaybe they will have time to make it better than @$$ & Iron But who are we kidding, the delay is just to keep the focus on Marathon, no additional work will be done to D2

Lol for a second there I thought they converted marathon to a destiny dlc when I saw it in game to purchase

They should have lots of time after the Marathon flop.

When the second round of layoffs happened, it was announced that a branch of Bungie split off and became a new subsidiary within Sony. If the majority of Bungie's current leadership remain unwavering in their decision to focus more on Marathon, perhaps a deal is being made behind the scenes to make a team dedicated to focus solely on the Destiny IP. I've been saying for awhile that Bungie should consider rebranding. But, if only Destiny is separated from the Bungie brand, that would be the best thing for it. -
2 RepliesIts a lose lose situation. If Marathon fails, Bungie dies and Destiny finally gets mercied. If Marathon suceeds, even more resources will be siphoned off from Destiny. There is no bright side to this.

2 RepliesYou’d be a fool to play marathon if you understood how badly they neglected Destiny 2s multiplayer. And if they have the actual nerve to sabotage D2 for marathon I hope no Destiny player gives Marathon the time of day. It needs to get Concorded.
-
3 RepliesShadow and Order update haven't been delayed. 1, it would been announced before Marathon pre order drop. Only fool player paying for Marathon taking there risk carry on with bungie. Since Destiny 2 safe with Sony, where Marathon just Bungie itself, they not getting any support or fund from Sony.

Called it, Marathon is banking hard that marathon won’t flop 😂
-
Honestly I wouldn't be surprised in order to get the Destiny community over to Marathon especially the pvp community. The game looks interesting "BUT" I won't play it because I'm not into extraction shooters maybe if they decide to add more pvp modes to it

2 RepliesHope for the best expect the worst. Except in Bungie’s case hope for improvements died some five-six years ago. Only hope players have now is a full fledged take over with Bungie working smaller tickets. If I had any say, Id bring on the guys who made Rising and put them in charge of the lot. Least they seem to give a damn.

Just remember it's a rumor it has not been confirmed by bungie but honestly if they did that it will be very stupid it would be a disaster. Just know the update for March 3rd that update is supposed to bring the rest of the conquest it's opposed to introduce new systems and possibly even more additional content. If bungie is willing to sacrifice content for destiny two for the sake of a new PVP game that's utterly stupid. Example think about it last year we had an active number of nearly 200000 players now it's down to 2000. Logically if they delay this event like the way it sounds it will bring a player numbers down even more... Frankly at this point bungie's concern should be bringing back players not decreasing players it sounds like they're willing to sacrifice this game for other projects when in the past they said they would never do example netease (2020) project matter.

5 RepliesEdited by xbroggiex: 1/19/2026 9:23:47 PMI partially doubt this because its Paul Tassi. But if they end up doing this they are just opening themselves up to a massive community crashout, which is already on edge waiting on the prophesized roadmap.

You guys can pay DLCs. Not me, I am tired bungie screw me few times. If they want me and players back in then reduce prices and start listening what players want. That why I will focus other games. I retire once new DLCs comes out. Good luck guys.

I wonder if all those pre-orders were for the Marathon themed D2 stuff.

6 RepliesEdited by jhermannITJ: 1/19/2026 9:01:32 PMEoF should have been delayed. Renegades should have been delayed. I'm happy if there is delay. I realized, I have a month basically to close out my grind for all the time limited weapon/armor pools. I just finished Tharsis yesterday. Now Swordmasters or continuing... Titan is done. Hunter has been a *****. Everything... but what I want. A chest piece. I got the chest piece for the kits I want. I could use an extra week or 3.

1 ReplyI don't think Bungie can do multiple live service IPs, when they had one IP, they dropped the ball frequently, and failed to deliver on quality in an outstanding way, and missed many opportunities with the game, and it's players, in order to redeem itself They can't split their attention, they are non-meta humans after all

43 RepliesWhy are we acting like delays are a bad thing? Remember cyberpunk? Let them keep working

I don’t worry over something we are guessing at

2 Replieskinda sad that sony is doing this

3 RepliesThis game was always a honey (MONEY) pot for them. They knew suckers-I MEAN their usual crowd would continue to pour money into Eververse. This game is just means to an end for them now. It's what it's always been, a cash cow.

1 ReplyI’m genuinely curious how marathon will perform. Between competitive with arc raider, and Bungie’s reputation being in the toilet due to their mismanagement and over monetization of Destiny 2. Is thinking it’ll flop hard but then again the bungie community always comes out of hiding so it’s anyone’s guess.
