Eclipse - The Nurture and Negation of Higher Dimensional Skillsets
I've talked a lot about Eclipse recently, but this one is about the information from the [url=https://www.ishtar-collective.net/entries/static-data-shell]Static Data Shell[/url], which drops from the Equilibrium dungeon.
At the start, VII of the Nine describes Eclipse as "our nature to nurture + and negate + higher dimensional skillsets". This caught my attention, since it seems to elaborate further on the exact nature of paracausality in relation to the Nine. Based on what VII says, paracausality is considered a "higher dimensional skillset" by the Nine, meaning the source of the Light and Darkness is in a dimension above the fourth dimension.
This would explain why the Nine cannot wield paracausality, and the analogy used to describe what the Nine can do with Eclipse: they can turn the gas knob all the way off or all the way on, [b][i]but they are not the source of the gas[/i].[/b] They enable and regulate paracausality, but the source of the paracausal forces is in a dimension above the Nine. To reference "The Unveiling", I think the Nine are one of the means implemented by the Gardener and Winnower to ensure the new rule of paracausality "doesn't disrupt the whole game", as enablers and regulators.

Furthermore, the Ghost Shell's lore might tell us how Mars returned and the origin of Eclipse as a power the Nine can wield, since the majority of the text describes Mars' situation across the timeline, from the Traveler's arrival, to its Taking by the Witness and eventual return:
[i][Red sands reform, dark matter in its bones. Its soul reflects: [b]Paracausality, while beyond reach, must obey elemental laws. And those laws are the soul's very foundation—always within reach. The ontology of the vanishing has been rejected, and thus, the red valleys re-instantiate[/b]. The soul of Mars speaks to the Inner Orbits.][/i]
Light and Darkness are set aside from the regular forces of nature and run parallel to them. However, both still obey elemental laws, and those laws are within reach of the Nine.
Simply put, it looks like IV "rejected" the Witness' power to Take and willed Mars back into the Solar System under his own power, and communicated what he realized to the Inner Orbits. Furthermore, one of the Nine might have done the same to return Titan to the System so we could find Ahsa. Taking that power the Nine have over the forces of nature, and turning it into an energy and weapon usable through third-dimensional means, is where Eclipse originated from.
NOTE: Since Eclipse is not solely a power to "negate" paracausality, but also a power to "nurture" it and "turn the knob all the way up", this could open an avenue for Eclipse to be incorporated into our gameplay in the future. E.g., a Transcendence-like mechanic for the five regular subclasses to amplify our abilities.
