CMV: Lightfall sold well because of Witchqueen, Subclass 3.0, and the promise of Strand.

The biggest selling points in my time playing the game (Just before Witchqueen) have been changes and expansions to our subclasses, and the tier system just doesn't impress the same way that our new subclasses do. How many people bought The Final Shape because they were excited about Prismatic? These days we're getting lots of quality of life changes, lots of new weapons (Not that weapons actually matter right at the moment), lots of new armor (which faces the same problem), but outside of Exotic reworks, we haven't gotten many changes to our subclasses. Warlocks have gotten changes, and people are playing them a lot, other classes haven't gotten the same degree of upgrades; or at least that's what it feels like as a Warlock. I think what Destiny 2 needs to gain back some of the ground it's lost is a new Subclass, or Subclass 4.0, they're the meat and potatoes of Destiny 2 build crafting, they're what makes the game the most fun to play. A new subclass is asking a lot, I get that, I'm not suggesting it lightly, but the state of the game is dire. If there's a "Break Glass for SIVA in Case of Emergency" button, now might be the time to flip it. Or start flipping it. Get the process started.
