Linux support is a need at this point

Linux being supported by bungie is a smart move. many people are moving from windows over to different linux distros because of how invasive microsoft is becoming to the consumer. in fact im one of them. allowing players to continue to play on linux based systems is already a thing that can be done considering battleye already supports the OS base as a whole. In short, I just wanna play the game. Im installing it on linux, but will not be launching unless support comes for it. I dont want an unfair ban.

  • No, it isn’t needed.

  • And I am a software engineer who uses Linux any time I'm not playing Destiny or Tarkov. I have a separate hard drive with Windows 11 that I use just for these two games. BattlEye runs entirely userspace on Linux. A custom kernel module would completely bypass it. If you don't understand why a userspace only anti-cheat is not feasible here or why anti-cheat on Linux in general is a massive challenge then you do not know enough about the topic. Further, Linux kernel has features that can do what certain software for 'limiting your net' on Windows does. A kernel with a built in limiter would make the issue even worse in Destiny. Before anyone says it: It does not matter what games are using BE on Linux. Different games give different degrees of authority to the game client and have different network models, Destiny is very bad with this. What exactly is so awful that you cannot use Windows for one game? What exactly is so "invasive"? Mind you I have disliked Windows and MS since Vista.

  • I’m sure that if the profit from having D2 on Linux outweighed the development and ongoing support costs that Bungie would have done this already.

  • Agree helldivers 2 supports linux same as many other games now but with the way Microsoft is going I can see myself moving to linux fully in the long run since I own a custom made steam machine and both steam decks ,but i have to run d2 of another nvme with windows on. All us steam os lovers can do is wait an see if the new steam machine gets really popular then possibly bungie may look into the option of linux Steam os is superior and so is the customisation through steam os literally the perfect console/pc gaming experience just straight to steam big screen and sleep mode actually works

  • Bungie has already stated they have no interest in supporting Linux.

    • For bungie something like that is a question is it worth the cost and right now with the player base where it is and how destiny 2 has been performing in terms of profit its just not. Destiny 2 really needs to bounce back a lot more for it to be worth it.
