Can’t unlink account
Hello! I have been a Destiny player since 2016. I only used one main account throughout my time as a player. This year though, I had issues with my old Microsoft email, causing me to deactivate and ultimately delete it. I play the game on Steam currently, but upon trying to sign into my new Xbox account, I was greeted with a message saying I’m unable to unlink the old, unobtainable account. It seems around March, an update launched causing unlinking to become almost impossible. I was unaware of this update, and during Feb-November I was unable to play due to a family emergency. Therefore, I had no idea this was even coming, otherwise I would’ve take the correct measures. I wanted to know if there was anyway to unlink the old account I no longer have access to, so I can play the game again on Xbox, am I simply out of luck? Or if there is a possibility for a bungie employee to manually unlink it for me, or any known way to unlink. Thanks in advance!

Hi there. As you noted, it is no longer possible to unlink accounts since March last year. Under no circumstances will Bungie remove or unlink accounts by request. Regardless if accounts could be unlinked still, you would be required to authenticate the old Xbox account to unlink it, which is not possible if it's been deleted. Your best option is to contact Microsoft Support to see if they can help recover the deleted account. If that's unsuccessful, then unfortunately your cross-saved characters cannot be accessed on any Xbox account.

Unfortunately as of March 25th 2025. You can no longer unlink accounts. Bungie won't remove it either.
