Stop complaining about difficulty

How does one yearn for good gear, good t5, etc, whilst not wanting to play high level / difficult content? Why would you get endgame level gear for doing absolutely nothing? I know my light level is not optimal for a lot of the stuff I do, however I still do it because I want the gear, I know it isn’t going to be given to me, and I like that, (not the rng, that’s something separate) but good loot in general should only come from challenging activities that you will have to adapt to. Sorry if you’re just a casual player but it’s either you play the game like there is no tomorrow snd grind, or don’t play at all. (I have no care for the dwindling player count due to casuals leaving, it isn’t my game, it’s not like i work there)

    • If you have no care for dwindling player count then when it gets too low it gets switched off, and that’s that no more d2

Meh I dislike the "difficulty" not because its hard but mostly because its tedious. Just take a look at GM vanguard alerts they are an absolute joke but enemies are just ridiculously tanky that it just becomes boring to do. I think the game started going wrong when around 3.0 subclasses came out and it just became worse as we were just trying to stack as many DR and damage buffs as possible. So unless you are always rocking DR boosts in endgame now you can get taken out very easily while when you do have them you are basically unkillable but at the much higher end so are the enemies basically. Its not a surprise the most popular armor set bonuses are ones that just give you more DR. You compare this to D1 and even in the highest end content you could at least take a few hits before going down mostly because the enemy density was a lot less and managing enemies with just shooting was much easier and fun. Now you don't manage anything and just spam whatever instant nuke ability you have that clears the room. I think most people that complain about the game being too hard atp usually are complaining about timers or just modifiers that make the game more tedious than engaging. Sort of a problem with challenge customisation is that its mostly "how do I make this activity the least annoying as possible."

This should be common sense for most but Bungie has coddled the community ever since they made endgame optional with allowing players to even get to max level without doing endgame content. Now people can get to max level alone but they HAVE to do endgame level activities to get there. That's how it SHOULD be. How it should have been from the start. Now the coddled players are leaving and the focus away from raids and dungeons, etc are making hardcore players leave. We need something like Pantheon back. There's a reason that Godslayer is the most acquired raid title in the game and people met their limits in it and were fine with it. It was highly successful. On top of that, you don't even have to do the hardest of the hard activities. From what I'm personally seeing from the portal, you can do semi hard stuff for little reward bumps and chill. You won't level up as fast if you do it this way, as it should be, but you can chill and play while getting worthwhile rewards at your own pace and level.

              • Tiered gear should drop according to difficulty of the activity.Max light should be attainable with every game activity.

I’m a casual player and I’m fine getting tier 3s in Expert and tier 4s in Master. To me, the tiered rewards and difficulty options are great - not saying they can’t be improved, but I think they’re solid concepts to build on. I agree that the hardest content and hardest modifiers should offer the best rewards, but maybe there are still things that could be tweaked (eg. option to remove timers in exchange for lowering drop rates of the best loot)? I’m confused by some of the complaints about difficulty, but I think it’s generally better when players can choose how they want to play.

                • I mean, you kinda missed the entire point. People aren't complaining they have to do hard stuff for endgame gear, they're complaining that they are forced into difficult content to get anything once your power level increases. Just as an example, the basic subclass quests used to ask you to run a strike with a certain subclass and exotic, now you need A+ on a portal activity. Which if you're say 400 power, isn't exactly comparable.

                • I'm a casual, I spend money on the story and cosmetics; I also go between games, I also don't need everything each season. I'm lucky, I don't play games all the time, but when I do, I have a select few I will constantly and consistently play.

                    • I think more dedicated (activity wise) loot could help. Some people think, why run a crazy hard activity for the same gear I can get from matchmade fireteam ops etc. If the harder content, had their own interesting loot(more than just an origin trait) more people would put themselves out there. But, if you offer the same carrot, just one way its easy to get and the other is not, people will do the easy way. This is not the whole problem, but I think it contributes.

I agree, but if you take time to distill the whining, there are still nuggets of truth in there. Challenging ≠ Frustrating, and that is the core of many complaints. I ran Ketch’s Arena last night couple times, and it’s easy to tell the activity wasn’t designed to have so many modifiers at the same time, how many times people wipe in the treasure room with the turrets? But other than that I agree that some activities should have more challenge for better loot. The key is to balance the experience properly.
