The problem with leveling and Destiny’s identity crisis

Your level (and guardian rank) should have no bearing on the loot you get. The only thing your level should dictate is the activities you have unlocked. Your level should reflect the time you have put into the game, unlocking more difficult and “endgame” content. The loot you earn should be solely determined by the difficulty of the content you complete, ie. Raids are most rewarding and lost sectors are least rewarding. Things like low man and flawless raids, and sf dungeons should be even more rewarding. I know a lot of the community would disagree since they love free handouts, but what I’m saying would also solve the current scoring issue for the Call to Arms event, that so many people are rightfully complaining about. If your level didn’t play a part in calculating your score (which ultimately extends to your loot), more players would have a shot at higher score percentages. Additionally, this would mean that a level 1 could add modifiers to whatever activity they are doing, to make it exceptionally challenging, but it will reward far more/greater loot. This would also allow them to level up quicker. On the flip side, this would also mean that someone who is the max level could chose to put on modifiers that would make an activity easier, because perhaps they don’t care about the loot and just want to have an enjoyable gameplay experience. At the end of the day, no matter your level, you get to chose the difficulty of the activities you play, regardless of your level, and you certainly won’t be forced to a certain difficulty/power cap. With the way the current leveling system works and how it works with the loot system, there is absolutely no reason to play raids and dungeons, and even less reason to play co-op activities in general, which is literally what Destiny is all about (or at least originally about back in 2015). While I personally enjoy competitive games and gamemodes, I would be lying if I said that kind of stuff belongs in Destiny. This is a game built on co-op PVE. Having a competitive event is kind of the antithesis to the idea that built Destiny. Give us more reasons to play together, and stop pitting us against each other. Destiny is not a competitive game. Stop trying to make it such.
