Is the Recluse a mandatory end game weapon?

I tried to manage to start getting my competitive crucible glory up, first time every doing it, and out of the 8 games I played I only won 2. So I’m wondering if the recluse is really that needed for end game? I’ve seen everyone run it with The Mountain Top and I really wanted one but I seriously don’t think I have the aptitude to make it to Fabled if not then what weapons would you guys recommend? Thanks for reading and I’m looking forward to reading your responses.

  • It is pretty much the top tier weapon right now for most people. That being said it is getting nerfed a bit in a few weeks, so other weapons will be able to compete with it. I'm guessing that it will still be a really good weapon, but likely wont be as much of a 'must-have' gun. I myself am not a great pvp player, and havent really put effort into it. For me at least, there are plenty of other things to grind for.

  • It’s not. My personal opinion, it’s a crutch

    • I’ve got it and I think it’s a waste of a slot.

    • It is easily the best gun in that slot for pvp. I wouldn’t worry about it unless the incoming nerf fails to bring it in check.

    • Is it good? Yes. Is it mandatory? It shouldn't have to be. Are there other options? Plenty, it just depends on what style you play in PvE. At least we aren't back in the days where it was almost mandatory to have a certain set of three weapons: Fatebringer, black hammer, and Gjallerhorn.

    • Not mandatory by any means but it's a gun that gets the job done for most enemy encounters. Why? It shreds when it gets the perk going. With rank and file enemies receiving a nerf to their headshot multiplier, higher end activities require primaries to take more shots to the head than pre-Shadowkeep. It does become very noticeable in pinnacle activities and higher difficulties. With Recluse being able to dish out headshot damage to the body with Master of Arms, it's much easier to kill trash mobs than struggling to hit them in the head multiple times with another weapon.

Mandatory? Not at all. You can do just as fine with an Exit Strategy or decently rolled Subjunctive if you want a good PvE SMG.

    • While not mandatory it is and will be one of the best PvE/PvP guns in the game if you want your exotic slot open, even after the nerf. The beauty of Comp this season is that fabled is way easier to hit because Bungo tweaked glory so that you earn more and lose less.
