I think an important aspect would be making yourself look inconspicuous/blend in with the environment (both in the open, looking ordinary, or staying hidden, like staying in shadows and behind objects). And maintaining line of sight/visual on target all the while.
Honestly I think such skills would be quite useful.

I've already learned to make use of darkness and shadows. I've spent the last few years wandering my neighborhood at night to get well adjusted to low levels of light...and I just don't enjoy going out during the day as much, anyway.

Just because of all the social/behavioral ques that go on between human beings. Nonverbal/unconscious/unintended communication and all that. Like . . . appearing to be busy but not in a hurry or doing nothing (because either of those would make you stand out). Definitely would require the ability to instantaneously adapt to different situations and such. Staying out of sight is relatively simpler, especially when people aren't looking for anyone. Same cannot be said for tailing someone while out in the open.

Staying out of sight is relatively easy for me, i'm not that noticeable among a crowd. And i'm working on the behavioral aspect. I've taken to paying closer attention to the movements and speech of the people around me during the day, miniscule details and such. I figure learning about every little signal would be a good first step to knowing exactly which ones would be appropriate in any given scenario.
