I think Marathons failure will have the opposite effect It will make Sonys investors want to wash their hands of Bungie, and vote to axe both franchise's
-
Marathon is already dead anyway. Even if free at release I won't play it. At the moment it's only cuz of content creator that covered it with the beta or second beta testing not too long ago that make it so Bungue can have some sort of Publicity on it. That game should had came out 6 years ago at least anyway. If the hard try hard players of Extraction shooters said nope to it after playing it then its Nope. Simple.

If Marathon fails Bungie’s done for. Destiny will then wither and die. Sony didn’t purchase Bungie to get Destiny. If Sony cared about D2 they’d have given Bungie additional resource to help, like Activision did with High Moon and Vicarious Visions. Instead Sony have taken 150 or so staff from Bungie to work on other projects
-
Are we sure Destiny itself will even still be active after Marathon launches?
-
Given that the budget report came out about Sony and Bungie, the bottom line is "RED" they're losing money.
-
I want Marathon to be such a huge success that Bungie has money to hire new people. Kind of a long shot, but hope springs eternal.

3 RepliesEdited by jmann43b: 11/11/2025 1:54:48 AMNo, for 2 reasons. 1. If 'Marathon' fails, there's nothing to suggest Bungie/Sony will suddenly decide it was a mistake and 'Destiny' will take priority above all else. 2. The 'Destiny' franchise, despite what some might desperately want to believe, is NOT the only game available and when it does in fact die (because it will) gaming will continue regardless so people need to accept that this franchise doesn't dictate the video gaming market. Sony has plenty of arrows in their quiver, and the life or death of this game won't topple their empire.

Just curious
I really don’t see a world where Marathon fails on launch. It far outpaces any of bungie’s prior releases in terms of environmental design with their amazing gunplay. It’s the endgame which is entirely unknown right now.

I’m not sure marathon failing leads to a focus on destiny. It probably leads to Bungie closing / entirely being taken over by Sony. Destiny getting even less workforce and support until the profits aren’t enough to keep the game going at all. It closes and then maybe a long time in the future we may get a new Destiny game or a spin off under a Sony banner.

Pls come back to reality they aren’t going to “refocus” on destiny lol 😂 if they were it would’ve happened well before now where the ships sinking
-
They don't think like that. 1. They judge a game based on its own merits. 2. Marathon fails than based on the earning potential of the studio Sony will make a decision which is likely shut down. 3. Its Renegades that decides the future of destiny 2 it needs to sell great and bring players back.

Marathon does not have to “die” for Destiny to succeed.
-
History does tend to repeat itself. Round 2 fail for Marathon…like Mario says, here we go! 🤡

If marathon fails they won’t have money to keep working on destiny with how many people have left an all these great games out now I don’t see anything that’s mediocre standing out and surviving this might be the end of destiny coming with lack of care form the developers about the cans how the game is a shell and they think it’s funny to make a advan guard title like come on bungie read the room players are upset and your losing trust with so many broken promises when it the state of the game were is the roadmap promised 2 months ago you said 2 weeks ago we would have sandbox news update coming in a week you need to develop trust you have lost it all now I hope this started wars expansion was worth cutting out parts of edge of fat and true complete lack of story in ash and iron was it worth it we will see but I doubt it sine bungie don’t want to over deliver

Marathon failing = less money. Nobody wanted Marathon but it kinda has to succeed. Hope this helps
