I see we are finally retiring the Haunted Sectors and getting not one, but two new activities. Will this finally bring back the magic of Festival of the Lost?
I'm afraid to say it, but I'm excited. Expectations need to be tempered though. Bungie's current recent track record is full of incompetency. This will likely bleed into the event activities and we'll just have yet another set of nauseatingly repetitive, monotonous, boring activities that are designed to give next to nothing, so you have to do them a billion times to get anything (including progress).
But I don't really want to be too pessimistic. I want to hold on to hope that these activities might be just what FotL needs. Only time will tell.
Judging by the name "Haunted Alters" and the fact that the image of the costumes show them, the activity will take place on the moon in the Altars of Sorrow. One gripe I already have with that is it's far too bright for a spooky, festive activity. You can see the platform they are standing on in the background is fully in the sunlight. Maybe it'll change?
My biggest fear is it'll be clunkily thrown into the portal like everything else, meaning it will require GM difficulty for matchmaking past 400. I'm terrified we'll load into the activity and it'll just have a serious lack of atmosphere, being a bright, day-time event in the Altars of Sorrow with only just a handful of recycled decorations dashed about. I'm scared that it's going to be just a basic event with nothing whatsoever new or unique to add to the gameplay. I really hope this activity isn't designed as "just a hurdle" for players to work through multiple times for event loot. We have too many unrewarding hurdles to work over in the game already. It's time for an activity that's just plain fun and rewarding. Please let this at least be a step in that direction.
