Quitter penalties in this atmosphere for PvP are still completely counter intuitive for retaining population.

-I understand the goal of quitter penalties is to encourage players to remain in games and play them to completion. -I understand the goal of SBMM is to secure the largest portion of the playerbase into a safer more fun experience in the Crucible and encourage them to engage with PvP. -I understand that weighting maps is to encourage players to step outside the meta and explore new options to stretch the sandbox out. However, the way these goals all play out at my level of matchmaking (which is an extreme case, yes, being on the very high end however: this is my experience and it is just as valid as anyone elses): - Map weighting does not allow exploration of off-meta options, it simply pushes people towards whatever is the least fun, most effective ways to play and at long ranges, to spawn camp from places you cannot defend from. - SBMM fills these games on maps nobody enjoys, at my level, with players -blam!- to ever explore off meta options and who are always playing at 100% intensity, often in fireteams with similar 1.8+ k/d's, often with clan names or Bungie names that are racist or misogynistic that have not gotten banned no matter how many times I report them, ensuring nobody has any fun and who often quit matches regardless when it's Disjunction - The quitter penalties therefore a) don't protect my lobbies anyway, b) keep me from leaving unfun games on unfun maps against unfun people and force me to sit around for 5 to 10 minutes getting farmed and bagged and c) when I do quit, and get suspended, like I am at this current moment, I am not encouraged to stay in my next game, I am encouraged to just not play. At all. PvP is my favorite activity and I currently hate it not because of the sandbox or the meta but because of all these extraneous factors that have taken my solo play experience and made it completely unplayable. This seems extremely counter-intuitive. I played 121 matches in freelance Trials this weekend and you know what? I had a blast. It was competitive, it was mostly fair, it was fun, I got some great gear for it. Now it's tuesday, freelance Trials is gone, and the casual Control playlist is somehow a hundred times more unforgiving and actively hostile to me, the solo player, than TRIALS OF OSIRIS. I'm happy that the middle range player is having a blast in Control now, I really am, but I am not a sacrificial lamb for that, I am worried about my own experience and my own experience frankly sucks a ton now more than it ever has. I don't want to play Mayhem, Clash is World Championship difficulty because it's where the sweats go to escape Control, Rumble is a unique sandbox that plays only like Rumble, Survival is a waste of time and Team Scorched quite frankly is dumb. I have no options to enjoy PvP like I used to anymore. The best part is I don't expect anyone to answer to explain why my experience has to suck, I just expect to throw this into the void and have to deal with it cause lately with PvP we don't get real answers, just more questions week after week. Sandbox feels great though.

  • You think having to play against your own skill makes you "a sacrificial lamb", but you'd rather other people be that lamb by being in unfair matches, so you can have it easy. Get a grip.
