I have seen a lot of people jumping to conclusions with the witness, saying that the witness is the winnower and that they are the creature at the end of witch queen. Yet we have had no confirmation of these assumptions, so I would like to theorize on another idea, another scenario. First, it’s name, why « the witness ». The deep, the winnower and formless all have clear meaning and indication of a connection to the darkness. The witness on the other hand has no connection to the darkness, the darkness is not known for witnessing a event but to cause them. I have also re-examine some dialogue by savathun eluding to the witness not being the winnower. Season of the lost week 2 « The traveller and the light near one foot your old enemies in the darkness at the other let me tell you a secret if you ever want to see what’s been watching you since the very beginning just stand on that line and look up. » two lies two truths pact « the witness birthed the darkness » witch queen the mirror « I stand before a being with a thousand names it whispers one the witness Remember it remember that name it is not darkness but somethings that wears it like a cloak it gives darkness a wicked shape » these suggest that the that the winnower is different from the witness, the winnower was created by the witness and even the possibility that the winnower is being forced into doing the winnower wishes. You might find these reasons odd or even laughable but everything we got on the winnower and the witness are vague lore and assumption. Like I said earlier this is just a different idea from the main one.
