Will we see Oryx as a Lucent Hive?

Yes

35

No, he’s dead

163

No, He’ll come back as the Taken King

70

An interesting thought, Auryx loathed killing when he began his conquests as a Hive, and upon learning that they were about to be chosen by the Traveler in WQ, it’s plausible that he’ll be back. Since I joined Destiny back In Beyond Light, I would love to see him be Lucent. Another thought would be how Oryx brought back Xivu and Savvy, but instead Xivu brings Oryx back. Although I doubt this possibility Edit: this isn’t about KF possibly coming back

How would you define oryx? Xivu - war for millennia Savvy - a long con that gutted a species Oryx - the first navigator, the first of everything, in that, the first thought, the total sum of knowledge, the next before the next. (For me it would be a fourth wall break)

  • We have better chances watching Ghaul being (genuinely) resurrected than we do Oryx. While he may have not initially enjoyed genocide, he inevitably became conditioned to Sword Logic and was willing to follow it to the bitter end. There is also the fact that his body is still floating within Saturn's rings, if he already hasn't plunged into the planet's atmopshere, making it very difficult for a ghost to simply find him much less revive him. Oryx's worm still likely resides in him too, which may block off his ability to be resurrected by a ghost. no matter how you cut it though, Oryx is pretty much dead. The only way we'd ever have Oryx come back, outside of his own raid, is if he is still mentioned throughout the story, be it in lore, in dialogue, etc. If you ask me, that's the best way to "bring back" a character while respecting their death in the story, much like how Cayde is still brought up every so often in one way or another (such as Ikora's nightmare or Crow's restored memories). As far as Xivu Arath goes, she, nor Savathun, can bring Oryx back since he died in his own throne world, making his death permanent. Oryx was only able to bring Xivu and Savathun back before because they died in his throne world, sending their souls back to their own, and he then revived them through an act of cunning and total war (or something long those lines).

    • With Oryx , and possibly Xivu also switching sides, would totally shake things up But it won't happen for the same reason Savathun didn't offer alliance with us in Witch Queen , we can't have too much help because Bungie has already decided that the Darkness wins

No. Oryx won't be Lucent. The Kings Fall Raid will be Non-Canonical like VOG for D2. Edit: already been Confirmed by Bungie, any D1 Raid that comes to D2 is Non-Canonical.

      • I don’t think so and it wouldn’t make a ton of sense to. Oryx is as fully into the darkness unlike Savathun. Not sure what ghost would be crazy enough to do that. It just doesn’t fit with the lore. I could see them maybe adding some lucent hive into kings fall from a gameplay perspective, but I honestly think it’ll just be champions. Barrier knights at totems, Unstoppable Ogres at Golgoroth, and Unstoppable Phalanxes at Sisters

      • Mind you, Auryx started off as female before the all known mighty Taken King, Oryx as you all vet know it. I can't imagine him having Traveller's power against Vanguard and the whole star system. For that he should stay dead just as his sister Savathun.

          • I suppose a ghost could resurrect him since we killed him. Although I think he is still alive in the exotic scout rifle. So if we destroyed it, then maybe.

            • Here’s the thing he took himself during regicide meaning he’s technically a taken but still had his free will (much like riven had) plus like xivu a’arath he is a strong follower in the sword logic so if he did come back and find his memories he’d rather let us kill him again then be a part of the light So no matter how yiu shape it oryx shouldn’t be revived as a lucent hive cause it goes against his belief and even if we told him they were lied too I think he’d be too far gone in his belief to just turn against the witness

            • Okay, so this probably cannot happen. Here's why: Oryx took himself right before KingsFall, which is why he survived the Regicide mission. If he wasn't completely imbued with the darkness before, then he was. Remember Dredgen Yor, Thorn Guy? Well when he shot Jarrin Ward, Shin Malphur's mentor, Thorn, which is an embodiment of the Sword Logic btw like Oryx himself, drained him of his very essence, his soul. When we killed Oryx, his very essence was drained as we destroyed his soul. We were inside his throne world after all. Anyway, when Jarrin's ghost went to revive him, she couldn't. She couldn't rez him because his soul had been drained. He was an empty husk. There was nothing to rez. This is why Oryx can't be rezzed. There's no Oryx to rez.

Oryx never brought back savathun or xivu arath. They died in HIS throne world. Do to their deaths they became so weak that they couldn't manifest themselves until oryx commited acts of war and cunning to bring them back. In order for a hive god to truly die they must die in their throne world. We never actually killed oryx in regicide, he took himself and retreated. The Dreadnaught is his throne world, so if he died in regicide kingsfall wouldn't have happened. Revival is also a direct violation of the sword logic. He exiled Nokris for necromancy. And he probably wouldn't want to be revived. But theoretically it would be possible to revive oryx as his physical body is still floating. We only killed oryx once in kingsfall. But sense his death was in the Dreadnaught his soul couldn't retreat to the throne world as he already died there. Let's say oryx doesn't have a choice. He really wouldn't be "Oryx, The Taken King". He wouldn't be able to take, nor would he be a king. If he was filled in on his identity like savathun was he would take his own life but kill his ghost first. So my answer is no. Not because it's not impossible but because he wouldn't want to.

              • I think Oryx coming back would be a little much. We'd be approaching Spiderman 3 levels of too many villains at one time to manage. I like this current mirror dynamic of having an adversary to ally ration. We have Mithrax and they have Eramis. We have Caital and they have Calus. We have Savathun (in theory) and they have Xivu. Adding another big bad in there throws off the symmetry.

                • The purpose of the light as a paracasual force can revive any dead combatant, but here's the thing: Oryx would be sought after. His worm would be that of legend as the navigator. Reviving him would bring the highest form like that into the light, but we would be facing another savathun situation. She would absolutely seek to corrupt Oryx into using the darkness. It would be interesting, but we would absolutely be rehashing Witch Queen if that happened.

                  • I think so. I think he will be the opposite of Savathun and despite returning will believe that this is his “chance” at competing with his sister, Calus, Rhulk, etc as the final shape competitor. Savathun got the light and decided to utilize it against the dark and our light whereas I don’t think Oryx will act the same if he had his memories back.
