Destiny 1 character did not transfer

I looked around to see if there was a contact form for this, but didn't have any luck. I played Destiny 1 right after launch up until about 2015 or 2016. My old character was at level 29 (light level at 131, if that's relevant) and so it should have met the requirements prior to the August 2017 deadline. Recently, I downloaded Destiny 2 and was greeted by the "legacy" cards showing the dates I had completed "The Black Garden" and "Vault of Glass." I figured this meant my character had been transferred just fine, but I only had the option to create a new character instead of choose my old one. Is there something I missed along the way? The only thing I could think of that might have messed with things was me having changed my PSN display name a few years ago when that functionality was added. But it is the same account, and logging into Destiny 1 with the account still shows my old character there and accessible. Sorry if this isn't the proper place for this or if this question has been asked a million times. It's been quite some time since I've used the forums, or visited bungie.net for that matter. Any help and guidance is appreciated!

Unfortunately, if you weren't greeted with your characters on the character select screen when logging in on Destiny 2, then your save data wasn't fully eligible for veterancy import with your character. If your characters weren't available when you logged in, then there's no way to make them available now. You'll simply need to recreate them. Please note that the only things that were imported were cosmetics (a few bonus emblems for milestones, and some slight dialog changes in some missions and with some npcs). Your equipment, abilities, etc, weren't part of that.
