SBMM Something the Crucible Desperately needs Back

TLDR; I’ve been around for a long time in the Destiny Crucible and we need SBMM. The arguments against it are relatively moot points. It worked fine in the past so why was it changed. Bring it back for the average player who doesn’t have hours to play everyday to bash their head against a wall to improve. So I made a post about a year ago, speaking for myself and much of the Destiny community in its desire for a return to SBMM. I know how controversial the topic is, and I will probably be blasted in the comments below like before, but it needs to be said. My last post was responded to by a DMG who stated they were monitoring the crucible and it’s situation and looking for ways to improve the experience. I am once again asking for Bungie to consider a SBMM system. Many common complaints or arguments against the system include but are not limited to it induces lag (not so much a problem with modern hardware), it makes matchmaking slower (true but in favor of fairness), and it makes matches sweatier. The last point is usually the defense most players use to hide behind when arguing against the system as every match for them would be a sweat fest or that everyone would sweat all the time. I would argue that is the point, you grind and push yourself to grow better at the game, something hard to do when outmatched. A player in skill brackets will of course sweat against players of equal skill, because they are equal, it won’t be easy. Currently the method of dividing teams doesn’t always work well either, as the draft pick can severely kneecap a team if a player is in the right skill zone, because it splits the teams in such a way that the captains are the top 2 players and if the rest of the lobby is imbalanced it can lead to lopsided matches despite best efforts. I’ve also heard just play comp if you want SBMM. That’s a scary mode for new players who don’t understand what crucible is, and as a whole is a completely unrewarding system for glory ranks. Trials after the rework was good until they told players about flawless lobbies, which now players avoid like the plague because they want to win countless games for no reason and wait to go to the lighthouse last minute. I know many will hate this take, will attack myself and anyone who agrees, but seriously it’s just a game, games are meant to be fun and balanced. As the crucible stands now it’s not what I would call fun for most. For myself I find the crucible increasingly frustrating, most matches feel like I’m beating my head on a brick wall, especially in trials when in a weekend it takes me an average of 10 matches to get even 1 win. I have found lobbies where I am severely outmatched in all sections of crucible, and I think back fondly to SBMM before it was removed in post Shadowkeep. Bungie I am again asking please try it again. It worked in the past and games generally were fine back then, even as far back as D1. It makes no sense we have it in one mode that no one plays anymore because there’s no incentive, the wider crucible needs it back.

 • There is a ranked playlist that uses sbmm. Ya don’t play it because you want an easy game. Just like those stacked pros you whine about. Play glory and you won’t face them. Jeez, y’all just want the red carpet rolled out for you every time you play pvp.
