Why don't people cooperate?

This is a question that's been burning inside me for a long time now. I don't mean to make this click-baity or a nostalgia trip tinted with rose-colored glasses or anything, but ever since Destiny 2 came out, I've wondered why no one cooperates anymore. Constantly, in raids, in crucible, in strikes, in gambit, really anywhere in the game, people rarely revive their teammates. It's an actual problem. Let's take gambit for example. It's time to dish out damage to the primeval, here we all are, bunched together shoulder to shoulder blasting away at the boss and a sniper gets me. My body is literally underneath a teammate, but instead of the three seconds to hold the revive button, they keep shooting away as if nothing else in the world exists except their own situation. Their own reality. I feel like this is legitimately a Destiny 2 issue. Destiny 1 felt like it was so rare when your teammate's priority wasn't to pick you back up after a death. Everyone was on it. Everyone exemplified perfect team work. Keeping your team alive was the heart of the game. I think it's a friendliness thing potentially. Destiny 2, you're standing in the tower and no one is dancing with each other. No one is teabagging the air to say hello to each other. It's get in, get out. Get the hell out of the way. Destiny 1, you cannot go to the tower without a 5-minute dance-off or a teabag session with 3 other friendly guardians. And no, it's not nostalgia. Load back up Destiny 1 today and you'll see the same thing. I'm not sure what's different, but I guess after all of this, my point I'm trying to make is: Bring back the old tower.

It's circumstantial, I would think. But my mindset is below, when playing with unknowns. (Solo) Speedrunners in PvE Playlists I'll run with them. Generally makes things go quicker. They usually don't die if they're high leveled.
Exception - Low level/New Light in the Fireteam, I'll stick with them, instead.
Revives in Strikes and PvE Playlists I'll push to revive everyone when I can.
Exception - the Guardian does not wait for me to revive them when I'm running their way. The Guardian has made their choice to be a lone wolf, at that rate.
Gambit Revive teammates when I can.
Exception - INVADER INBOUND. HUNT EM!
Crucible Pick a teammate (or a small stack if you have one on your team) and stick to em like glue, if their playstyle matches yours. But give them space, to disengage and not run into you. It's generally hit or miss. Everything else usually requires communication via chat, so there isn't much else to cover. Those are my "Guardian Guidelines", so to speak. Passive? Yeah, pretty much. If one isn't cooperative then by nature one tends to be competitive. But there's a time and place for both. Care to guess which side is favored more often than not? Lol ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    • Revives are the most important part of the game, people need to get their head. I come across many players just walking over revives to then end up dying. Stupid way to play. Not sure how they look themselves in the mirror. Get the revive ya dope

Remember there is another human being on the other side of those pixels… …and remember what is going on out there in the world right now. We are in the middle of a once-a-century public health emergency that is about to enter its third year. We are in a global economic slowdown that about to enter its third year. In many parts of the world political unrest is building as well. As these crises are stressing people and stressing political and cultural fault lines. Many people are struggling with the loss of important people in their lives. People they hadn’t expected to lose. IOW, odds are you are dealing with someone who is stressed-out, scared, and possibly angry at the world right now and they are playing this game to get a break from that. A point I had to remind myself of two days ago as my own frustration mounted as I drove trying to find a drive through line that wasn’t a mile long, and when I did the guy gave me my food and forgot to give me the drink I’d ordered. I had to take a deep breath and remind myself that the world is a scary and confusing place right now, and we all need to cut one another a little slack right now.

      • Yeah I agree, however, there were a number of seasons when Bungie actively discouraged team play when the bounties and quests had player kills etc instead of team kills. It lead to a competition for kills amongst fireteam members and if your fireteam member was down then he could stay there whilst you got a brief window to focus on your kills/quest completion. They seem to have changed some of the quests to team kills/completions which should help in the future but the Destiny 2 player mindest of "MY KILL!!" will take time to change.

        • I don’t see or experience this. Sorry you do. I have had people go out of their way to revive in random open world. Also for game like this Bungie goes out of their way to make communication a pain in the -blam!-.

        • I try to revive a fallen player as quickly as possible. If invaders is on the field during gambit taking us out when prime evil is up, I will wait to revive (if I don't get blown away myself) until invader is gone. That way they don't keep regenerating the prime evils health every time the knock us off.

        • If people aren’t in direct communication they aren’t gonna communicate hence why people who usually enter freelance trials never win against a team who just stick together. But hey the people who dont coordinate are also the same people wondering why they are loosing and demand freelance modes assuming that will solve their problems. People usually blame other things before they actually realize its their fault.

          • It isn’t really complicated. The game isn’t played by a team so people don’t treat it as such. Not sure where your coming from with raids, done them for over 7 years using lfg and had no issue with people reviving one another

Coulda at least got the zone and contribute something right?

So the norms that are hooked play because it’s routine are just like that in their lightweight pissed routine. If I’m pissed d2 hasn’t touched pvp in 3-4 years and still have to repeat mundane missions sorry just dreading my next pvp bounty that’s gonna take 2-3 hours because can’t get anything done with how they are structuring the game

                • i mostly agree, but reviving in gambit rarely works. usually the teammate respawns halfway through being revived anyway, and you have wasted time and left yourself in the open.

Sounds like you play with strangers or don't mic up? When I play with my friends, we revive each other. Usually I'll make a call out that I'm down and my friends will revive me. I'm usually always reviving people in Gambit, strikes or trials.

                • In matchmade activities and no communication playlists, people rarely use teamwork as its kind of pointless due to the low risk, low reward nature. People just casualy do their own thing. If youre not being ressed in raids, with a 2 min timer, youre just in a really bad team. My advice is to just try setting up your own teams, with mic etc for anything you want to approach seriously. Because i can tell you now, you will rarely if ever find cooperative teams in playlist activities with no comms. Theres just no urgency and often times little reward in trying lol. Infact, due to some playlists having low enemy density, and people trying to get bounties or quests done, it actualy sometimes benefits people to leave their team mates dead, and get all the kills themselves.

                • D1 wasn’t much better in terms of reviving. Unless it was content someone couldn’t solo. There also the massive hamster wheels we have to tread. I wouldn’t be surprised that someo-blam!- gambit stops caring. They just want the reward. That’s the main issue.
