The vast majority of people with vault problems are holding onto actual trash in their Vault. I'm not necessarily saying that's the case for you, but it is for most people. I'm constantly having vault space issues, but I would say I'm part of the very small percentage of people that hold onto certain niche items that are used in builds for very specific activities (such as solo or endgame challenges). Genuine question, what is taking up most of the space in your vault, weapons or armor? If it is weapons, are you trying to keep 1-2 of every weapon or are you holding onto weapons based on archetype? If it's armor, are you holding onto every good rolled item above let's say 65+? I ask because there are some easy things you can do to trim down your vault if you are holding onto multiple items that are essentially equivalent. Also, I HIGHLY recommend D2 Checklist for Vault Management, it is a great way to compare like weapons and armor to each other so you can easily find items to get rid of, plus you can link it to DIM which makes it incredibly easy to mark items as Keep or Junk.

 • Quick update. This whole discussion inspired me to take another look at some of the armor I was holding onto and I got rid of about 20 good rolled armor pieces, which is a huge improvement for me. For me, I boiled it down to having 4 armor pieces for each character for each slot (total of 60 pieces). The reason I chose 4 is because I want one of each element for builds. Given that my PVP build is all Arc and my VOG build is all Void, I only needed to keep 2 additional items and got rid of the rest (besides certain raid armor pieces from other raids as an example). The nice thing about D2 checklist is that I could even put the element in the notes to keep track for future vault management. While it may sound like I'm a D2 checklist employee at this point (which I'm not), just wanted to follow up, good to encourage fellow hoarders like ourselves that it is okay to get rid of some stuff.

 • Sounds like your vault looks more similar to mine. One of the things that is worth doing is comparing the armor to other pieces in the same slot. For example, maybe you've got 5 different Legendary Chest pieces for your Titan, all of which are 65+ rolls, you don't need to keep them all. For me in that scenario, I find it good to keep certain stat distributions and get rid of the rest, for example, maybe a high Rec/Int and Rec/Dis rolls for different builds. I'll admit that I could trim my armor a bit more myself, but I've gotten most of the junk out of there. Have you tried using D2 Checklist at all? I highly recommend it.

If the guy wants 6 versions of each weapon in a game that only rewards loot what is the problem with that? Why would anyone think that’s a bad thing to want more vault space? It has nothing to do with hoarding or system memory - it has to do with Bungie forcing you to delete content so you have to grind again… That’s it that’s all - support your fellow guardians when they ask for more space instead of judging people- geez…

 • I've seen many many vaults from people that have vault issues and in just about all of those cases, I could easily get rid of over half of their vault if I was in their shoes. Here's a short list of weapons/armor I suspect most people don't bother keeping. 1. I've got 15 Year 2 armor pieces I keep in my vault due to perk combinations that can no longer be achieved, specifically, Reserve mods on helmets and class items. While I am not actively using those while playing the activity itself, I use them in certain situations before rallying a flag to get a few extra shots for a special or heavy weapon. This comes in handy for a handful of endgame challenge scenarios. 2. I hold onto a number of sunset weapons that serve no purpose except for endgame challenges, a perfect example being the Perfect Paradox that I have with One-Two Punch. It is the only kinetic shotgun to my knowledge that has that perk (or at least the only one I have). 3. I hold onto most weapons that have decent DPS potential under the right conditions in case it becomes the meta for solo content, for example, I've got 3 different Reed's Regrets all for DPS: one with Firing Line, Vorpal Weapon, and Harmony. Firing Line is the default meta option, Vorpal Weapon is the best solo option for most scenarios, but Harmony can outdo Vorpal in solo content depending on if there are adds available to shoot during the DPS phase. 4. While I think this is a bit more common of people, I make it a rule to have one of each exotic armor piece in the vault with a good roll in case it ever becomes meta. The buffs we got this season is a perfect reason why this is a good idea, which means holding onto 99 Exotics. This isn't a means to say that I am special by any means, it's more to say that while I struggle with my vault, most people are making poor decisions about what to keep. If you are the kind of person that wants to keep every "god roll" even if you have a gun that does the exact same thing already, you need to start deleting stuff.
Well, there, you see, it's not your vault, it's theirs. Just like you value your items for whatever reason, they value their items for whatever reason. The criteria is subjective. "Manage your vault better" does not solve a faulty feature. I sit at like 250 items, and i'm perfectly aware that 500 is not going to be enough for 2 toons after a while (i cleared my vault entirely out of protest when sunsetting was announced, and didn't played for like year and a half, came back some 5 months ago).

 • Part of the problem lies in the constant changes For instance I had one of each linear fusion rifle NEVER USED THEM Taking up vault space But then comes the artifact and now they are the heavy slot DPS option I did not have to farm anything or grind out activities for hours to get them They were just sitting there, acquired from daily play all with great rolls I was set on go at the start of the season Sure I could have used other weapons but I want to try and complete stuff fast I have three characters and my vault is full for the reason listed above Game forces you to use a plethora of weapons and armor to get stuff done efficiently yet punishes you for having the options on tap

 • Completely get that the game is changing and you want to keep weapons of every type and every element, I do the exact same thing. Let's do the quick rough math here though. Let's say you want one of every weapon of every element (including the stasis/kinetic slot as a 4th), that's 16 weapon types (excluding Trace Rifle) which means holding onto 64 weapons. Let's say that on top of that, you want one of every weapon archetype in each slot for PVP, I don't have the exact number of archetypes, but I think it is fair to say that would be around 80 weapons. So let's say that's 150 weapons out of 500 slots, what is going on with the remaining 350 slots? Sure, there's armor and exotics, but at the end of the day, we are talking about FIVE HUNDRED slots in the vault. Honestly, I think a much better solution would be an improvement to the Collections and Consumables system. I think a lot of people wouldn't worry about holding onto as much as they do if we could reclaim weapons from collections, even if it were a default roll. I personally think it would be a great idea to allow Collections to "store" a set of weapon perks from a weapon you've obtained, and then allow you to reclaim that weapon from Collections whenever you want, this would allow players to get rid of their "what if the meta changes" weapons. On top of that, I would recommend the same thing for Exotic Armor, allow players to save a stat roll in Collections so they can get rid of it and reclaim it later if the Exotic becomes meta overnight. For Consumables, simply making currency stop being a physical item would help; this might be a "me" problem, but about 50 items in my vault are Consumables, but I'm certain others probably have similar problems.
