Edited by Centaur-1: 12/10/2021 1:11:52 PMCayde had his journal from his previous life when he woke up and I’m pretty sure some Exos have memories stored deep inside their heads even after resurrection(though they are often damaged from constant reboots and other Exo stuff).

Edited by KannibalKlown: 12/7/2021 10:00:24 PMThey have something hard coded into them. A number that increases for each reset. Supposedly something that can’t be faked. It’s not the paint job on their faces. But think of it like a file on their operating system.
By default, Exos had a number appended to their names that signified the number of reboots they had experienced, with the original human used as the zero-index. Hence, to use Clovis I's example, the human John would be followed by the Exo John-1, John-2 after one reset, etc. This number was stored in the Exo's memory as hardware, and so could not be forgotten.[18]
In Caydes case. He left a note to himself in his journals telling himself that six was the final number he wanted to be. And wanted to die if it increased again. He said his closest friends knew this, so if the person reading this is version 7 or higher then someone isn’t playing fair.

i think they can only not recall their lives before being risen and becoming guardians. since isnt dying and having your ghost rez you a sort of thing covered in the story? but its different with exo's. they just suffer from memory degradation after so many resets. but thats why theres the number to their names so they know how many times they have been reset. not sure how they know but id assume its a process that involves a team of peoples help so maybe its just part of the process

He had a journal we found some of those pages in caches I think.
