My ideas on the future of the DCV

Legacy seasonal rotation As we all know, Bungie introduced the DCV with Beyond Light to prevent the game from getting too large and bloated with activities, as well as remove older content that was considered obsolete or just barely played by the community. As a result, we’ve seen many raids, activities, campaigns and destinations removed from the game, with no word on when they may return. That said, some things have been taken out of the vault and added to the game, in the form of Destiny 1 content such as Vault of Glass and a handful of original strikes added to the game, as well as the Cosmodrome destination. However, I believe that content “unvaulting” shouldn’t be limited to remastering content from Destiny 1 and adding it to the current game, and much more can be done with this system. Additionally, many players have voiced their frustrations with the DCV, claiming that in an effort to keep the game “manageable”, Bungie is actually stripping away content that players have paid for. I believe that I have come up with a system that can both keep the game size manageable, while also keeping legacy activities in the loop. I propose the Seasonal Rotation System. The main idea being that with each new season, certain content is vaulted away while other content is unvaulted to take its place. For example, the current “Legacy” tab currently only features the Vault of Glass raid, but in the near future, it could contain up to three raids at a time. Such a rotation could be Leviathan (brought back with reprised gear), Scourge of the Past and King’s Fall (if the trend of remastering raids continues) in one season, while in the next season they are swapped out by Vault of Glass, Eater of Worlds and Crown of Sorrow. The same idea would apply to destinations, as well as strikes and crucible maps that accompany them. So, if one season, Titan and Io are unvaulted but Nessus is vaulted, then the strikes of Titan and Io would be reintroduced into the playlist, while the ones from Nessus are put away. The selection of which destinations are available can either have a story reason (such as the darkness “swallowing” destinations that were removed in Beyond Light), or simply be done for the sake of gameplay. Content would rotate in this manner season by season, allowing legacy activities to remain in the game in some capacity and feeling more meaningful while they’re around, while also preventing ALL content from being available at once and overcrowding the game. This system doesn’t have to be limited to just raids and destinations however. What about legacy campaigns? To that end, I raise you… Meditations 2.0 In line with the seasonal rotation and vaulting/unvaulting of destinations, different campaigns should be brought back via meditation questlines given by Ikora. For example, if during one season, Titan and Io are unvaulted, then the Red War campaign should be obtainable from Ikora, as all the required destinations for that questline are available. It would be marked in your quest log as a “Campaign Meditation”. New missions would be started at the tower by speaking to Ikora. To increase replayability, campaign missions should have modifiers, as well as provide rewards such as weapons, armor and upgrade materials, with increased drops depending on meeting different challenges such as clearing the mission within a certain time, getting a certain amount of kills, or finishing the mission without dying. These extra challenges could be either incorporated as bounties or tied directly to individual missions, with each mission having different challenges to clear. With the latter option, missions could be replayable if challenges were failed. Seeing as the Witch Queen campaign will have a Legend difficulty mechanic with enhanced loot, the same mechanic could be applied here, allowing players to obtain either a normal meditation campaign or a legendary version. Legend campaigns would allow players to claim greater rewards from Ikora (perhaps an ascendant shard for finishing a campaign?) Campaigns would rotate season by season in line with the destinations that are available at the time. If Io and Titan were vaulted, but Mercury was brought back, then the Curse of Osiris campaign would be available, for example. This system would bring great replayability and rewards to campaigns, and could serve as a New Game+ of sorts, allowing players new and old to experience past stories with their current gear, and the added twist of modifiers, challenges and Legend difficulty to keep things new and fresh.
