[Linux] Enable BattlEye Proton Support
For those unaware, BattlEye has recently announced that they are added support for Steam's Proton Linux compatibility layer. This allows Linux users to play some Windows games on Linux. At the moment, playing Destiny 2 is not possible as the anti-cheat gets flagged.
This new added support for Proton is on an op-in basis, and as far as I'm aware, it is simple to opt-in.

1 Reply+1, it should just be a simple email to BattlEye and support is enabled. I wouldn't have a problem with Bungie if the game were just broken even with Proton/BattlEye runtime, but because (or so I've heard) the game ran fine via Wine back on BattleNet, it really shouldn't have a problem running on Linux. I think that this just boils down to the fact that there is a stereotype around Linux being that "It's only for hackers" and "It's only for developers" which is making Bungie paranoid that enabling it would bring more cheaters to the game, even though Linux doesn't enable anything more that Windows does. Anyways, we can only hope. Bungie has made it clear that they don't care about Linux users, as is evident in their responses to posts boiling down to: "Use Windows".

once again asking for proton support for destiny 2, it would be the perfect game to play on a handheld and run on a linux machine, i know the team isnt at its best right now but holy crap grab some new devs and support team to delete cheaters from the game so that you can enable proton support for us linux gamers, its that easy. valve is working their butts off still and will for a long time with proton and wine, enabling battleye would be so easy to enable with proton, games like the finals have enabled proton support thanks to everyone asking and the game runs great under linux, and their is barely any cheaters, even on asia you will only meet 1 or 2 every 5 to 10 matches, and thats waaay better then when the finals was in open beta and it was riddled with cheaters. please bungie enable proton support :)

Why hasnt this been enabled yet? Linux has beaten mac os in gaming now because of proton and the steamdeck Enabling support would be super easy for battleye, everything else would be handled by wine/codeweaver devs and valves 100s of devs working on dxvk, vkd3d for translation. THIS IS EASY MONEY BUNGIE

For the love of all that is holy, enable Proton anti-cheat support. I'm tired of rebooting just to play a single game in my 3500 games collection on steam and then having to reboot again when I need to work. It's VERY simple to enable support and should have been done 2 years ago. DO IT. Until you do, I'm dropping the game like every other sane person.

I would love to be able to play via Proton, as things stand it feels like enabling proton support with the new expansion would be a great move it would enable a wider range of players to enjoy the game with minimal additional work. And a large number of anti cheat solutions already have linux support so it shouldn't have an adverse effect on the current player experience.

YO enable this for us linux users and especially for the steamdeck :) proton is a amazing piece of software that is able to translate api calls from windows to linux and valve are working their asses off getting proton to run better and better so why dont you bring support so that everyone who wants to move to linux can without having to sacrifice one game that they love spending time and money on.

OMFG Bungie, c'mon, I'm SICK of going from PC for all my games on linux to XBOX literally and exclusively to play D2 which has nothing in gaming power compared to my PC

At this moment, Destiny 2 is the main reason I have stayed on Windows but that door is soon to close since I am beyond tired of maining my rigs in Windows as I refuse to move to w11 due to the BS hardware requirements. Currently I am working on deploying a Arch based environment since that is what Valve/Steam have been using with alot of luck for the SteamDeck/SteamOS 3 for Proton compatibility - so far all of my hardware has support and I can make my Nvidia drivers work flawlessly until I swap out to a RX6900/6950XT to end some of the backend work that is needed on Green Teams side. In this day and age there is no reason other than laziness not to support a Linux branch like SteamOS/Arch since BE has been working hard in this area to allow support. The Linux community has been doing all of the heavylifting for studios to ensure compatibility for free, so why not let us carry this to the finish for you Bungie.

bumping this again, although I'm sure there are tons of other threads on this exact thing. SteamDeck is generally available. Common Bungie, do the bit o' work to make BattleEye work with Proton and move forward. Linux users are way less scary than those M$ fellows.

Welp. Stadia is going away next year. As a Linux user, this was how I played d2. I know some continuity plan for stadia players is in the works, but if it falls short of either enabling steam on Linux or a stadia alternative (e.g. Bungie hosted implementation of stadia replacement), I'm done with this game.

The Linux community has proven to be the single most autonomous, perseverant, self-reliant, stupidly determined bunch to not only get games to run on their system, but maintaining them also. Valve has mentioned time and time again - Proton issues are proton issues. All Bungie needs to do is enable AC support and facilitate reception. No ongoing support is expected. And yet... Here we are. But that's okay Bungie. You don't want my money? Many other game developers that are respectful of the system I CHOOSE to run, will. And they're getting it. I haven't really played since end of 2021, and I realise now how I'm actually not missing out on anything I can't get form other games. I'd rather be without Destiny forever, than have to go through the headaches of Windows and all the BS that comes with it, along with complacent developers. Done with this.

The only reason they really have to not switch over is "needing" resources for extra OS support. But I think what they don't understand is the independence of most linux users. The people that use linux know that they aren't the normal user base, and are okay with the problem possibly being on their end. But when it's blatant that they do not want to commit for a lack of control, that's a bad sign for the perceived intentions of the company.

Oh well. Still nothing. I see no reason to keep rebooting just to play Destiny 2. On other news, Apex Legends is working fine with anti cheat.

+1 I absolutely hate windows now that i finally got a taste of linux (ubuntu user here). What i hate more is that destiny 2 is the only thing stopping me from purging my system off of windows. Its infuriating to me that bungie hasn't even given us a reason at all as to why they refuse to acknowledge linux and will go so far as to even ban those who try to play d2 on linux. sorry for the rant but i needed to get it out of my system.

Getting harder and harder to avoid spoilers and videos in regards to witch queen, absolutely pains me to see destiny sitting dormant in my library. Keep pestering, the more people speak up the sooner we get an answer from bungle if it will ever happen. Hope to see you all in orbit soon!

Today I was attempting a solo legendary run on the new campaign and right at the last boss my system crashed because of Windows drivers...... this is an issue that happens once in a while (with other games too) and I have never had it in Linux. I swear it makes me ragequit every time it happens and as soon as I get a chance (probably once Steam OS 3 releases) I'll say goodbye to Windows for good.
