i mean, when you think about it, it really doesnt make sense. go into a taken portal to emerge taken into an identically world filled with a bunch of different guardians who you kill

How does anything work canonically? When I get blown to pieces with expensive armor and one of a kind exotics, my Ghost can recreate them.

Edited by dramund3: 7/31/2021 9:28:07 PMProbably something about 2 sides of the same coin.
*ding*
Do not question the nine

Edited by whateverman7: 7/30/2021 12:25:58 AMBasically, yea lol. Both teams are sent to identical worlds, and the only way to travel between them is the portal, which is taken darkness. When we go through the portal, we become 'taken' for the most part, which is 'bad'. Hence why he says something about being bad when you go through. You gotta remember that while gambit is a 'game' for us, it is an experiment for drifter, the nine, and the man with the Golden gun. They are studying good (light) vs bad (dark/taken), how it affects us, whether we can use it later in whatever battle is coming, etc.

That’s because, canonically, you likely aren’t going to the exact same spot. This is where game design and lore collide and the game design tends to win. Especially when it’s an area that doesn’t really amount to much lore wise. Using the same map for both teams makes it easier on players and devs, Half the maps to memorize for us and half the maps to make and balance. The lore has covered the pros and cons of Gambit and there is zero mention about other worlds and other Guardians. It’s all spoken about as if it’s our people on both sides. Think of it like this. Where is the canonical explanation for multiple copies of one of a kind exotics? Not everything can be explained in lore. We got to give some wiggle room for the game

It is a taken portal but I dont believe we are taken. Since the vanguard sponsore this game, the pvp aspect is probably more like crucible. The better question is why the adds see invaders as friendly? The only answer that really makes sense is this is some sort of jury rigged vex simulation that the drifter created. This would explain why enemies spawn in specific areas and are friendly to invaders. This makes even more sense since the splicer activity is basically gambit, but is a vex simulation.

We get paid

Edited by Deadlocked21: 7/30/2021 4:54:25 AMHow do we still go to Titan or Mars canonically in Gambit? Both questions are answered by the same Lore explanation - any and all destinations that no longer exist can be recreated as simulations for Guardians to use through Vex technology. So, it stands to reason, that each team in Gambit goes into a different simulation of an identical location and invading just crosses between the simulations.

Is he ever actually gonna do anything with all those motes? i mean i trust and all, but...

Portal uses Red Eye Orbs.

Edited by Double07: 7/29/2021 8:55:31 PMWhy are there two teams in two identical locations?
-
It works flawlessly!
Sorry wrong game mode
What definitely doesn't make sense is that if you are essentially gambling on invading another player's world that you get infinite wall hacks on them. That's complete bullshit and don't feed me it's 4 on 1 because it never is. It's not a thing in any Souls game which is clearly where they stole this mechanic ffrom.

Both teams probably get teleported into places that look the same in the "gift" Drifter has at the back of his ship.
-
While I haven't read any lore on how the portal works, as idk if there is any, I imagine it's just a teleporter that covers you in Taken essence, allowing nearby Taken to ignore you temporarily.
