Nightstalker: Way of the Wraith needs a buff/rework (PVE Focused)

I feel like this is easily the worst subclass in game since there is little to synergy between its perks, its abilities are weak, and it's super is weak. Outside of some nitch crucible play styles, there really is no place for this sub class. My thoughts: Buff corrosive smoke either by increasing the AOE & duration or increase the damage & lingering duration from passing through the smoke. Change flawless execution so that precision hits recharge corrosive smoke and precision kills grant 3 seconds of invisibility with true sight. Change shattering strike to activate from rapidly landing 3 precision hit while corrosive smoke is available. Doing this creates a temporary buff on screen, and hitting an enemy with corrosive smoke now debuffs them for 10 seconds. Spectral blades needs a 25% damage buff and using heavy attack now unleashes a large smoke screen that deals DOT and restricts enemy movement. Additionally since this is the slowest melee super with no AOE attacks, holding heavy attack or clicking the thumb stick should launch a dash attack similar to shoulder charge. (Honestly if your playing against skilled players, this is one of the easier supers to out run so it need an ability to close the gap) Edit: I should probably mention that most of these changes are intended to strengthen it for PVE, add synergy, and give it more of a roll.

3 second invis is useless. Its 10 now. And i agree. Its useless in PvE....same as nova warp...both need a huge pve buff.

  • Shadowshot already helps a ton in boosting dps on Way of the Trapper, and Way of the Pathfinder turns Shadowshot into a dps super itself. Way of the Wraith has a more PvP-centric toolkit, so I don't we need to worry about it in PvE.

Not sure if I agree with your proposed ideas, but I definitely agree with your sentiment. Other subclasses that I think need some help in PvE(outside of more casual/basic content) too are: - Nova Warp - Bottom tree Stormcaller - Top tree Hammers - Top tree Golden Gun - Bottom/Middle tree Arcstrider - Bottom tree Dawnblade

      • No. The super is fine, if anything they should reduce the damage resistance since it makes no sense at all that you go off radar and get the highest damage resistance in the game, should be the opposite. The smoke already does more things for you than any other charged melee in the game, that absolutely does not need a buff.

Would be nice if flawless execution could be activated with smoke bombs. I can agree with precision shots on combatants recharging your smoke not gaurdians though that would be a tad broken especially with full auto weapons in pvp.

            • I completely agree with you. I've been playing around with subclasses recently and the lack of synergy on this one kills me. I propose they double down on the stealth/assassin aspect of this one. I'm going to try to propose changes that will work in both PvP and PvE because they're both important to me. 1) Increase the radius (approximately the size of the initial silence and squall freeze burst) and duration (3 seconds or so) and thickness of the smoke grenade and remove the damage it does. PvE Goal: Create breathing room in something like a GM. PvP Goal: Add an ability that has utility for positioning but won't benefit either party in a gunfight. 2) Shattering strike now has it's own charge. Holding melee now has a windup like bottom tree golden gun. Player teleports a short distance (think Bakris dash) and melees the enemy. Hitting an enemy from behind does more damage and debuffs the enemy. Kills turn the player invisible and grant true sight. Missing the melee still costs the charge. PvE Goal: Give players a reliable way to debuff enemies in higher level content and gives players an interesting ninja like option in lower level content. PvP Goal: Give hunters a highly technical melee ability. Hitting an opposing player from straight ahead would deal normal damage but hitting an opposing player from behind would instant kill (which should be pretty rare). Against a good team this would be tough to pull off but the payoff is worth it. *Exotic Bonus*: gauntlets with the exotic perk "grim reapers sprint" - successfully killing an enemy with shattering strike fully recharges shattering strike. Flawless execution: This perk is dope as is. With the above changes giving the ability to see through your smoke and having a very brief amount of time to set up a shattering strike would make this thing super strong in both PvE and PvP. Spectral Blades: This one is really strong in PvP as is. Pump up the damage in PVE by maybe 10% and give it the same effect as tethers where it debuffs the enemy so your team gets use out of it.

              • If they made the class do a blink strike that debuffed while shattering strike is active it would really help. Can't tell you the amount of times I had to toss the smoke first so I could actually debuff certain bosses with weird hitboxes

              • It's an assassin based class. Here's what needs to be done: Increase movement speed in super, decrease lunge distance or attack speed (maybe increase damage to compensate). You shouldn't move faster by attacking, especially when it's duration is longer while invisible. Remove that loud noise it when invisible. Buff Gwisin Vest (basically the only armor built for Spectral) by removing the heavy attack cost when using it and restoring energy for kills from behind, all it really does now is return the energy used with the heavy attack. Make Shattering Strike a OHK if attacking from behind. Increase super generation for kills with True Sight active.

              • It just needs to be put back the way it was. Why have any new abilities or supers when they will get nerfed into the ground and all exotics that are suppose to make that subclass better nerfed as well. It happens to hunter way to often. First to be nerfed. Every hunter subclass has been messed with or nerfed to basically uselessness. I miss my tripmines that would stick to people and pve enemies. I miss nightstalker a actually being useful. I want to say I miss bladedancer but all that needed to be done was tone down super armor but it went to far. I miss arcstaff when it made a difference. I miss gunslinger being powerful. I miss bladebarrage doing actual damage instead of missing half the time and the other half not doing enough damage. I miss spectral blades making a huge difference. Subsequent abilities are hit an miss when it comes to nerfs. But just the overall feel to every hunter subclass changed making them less powerful overall. There exotics that go along with them to give back to the player for actually being useful and playing how that subclass is suppose to be played. Went to far and made it even worse. Yes I main a hunter cause my friends refuse to. So lone hunter 24/7. But I played with my warlock and titan as well. An they were more powerful than my hunter was. Just because hunters are more popular that doesn’t mean nerf them to uselessness.

It should be stealthy, not tanky. Right now it’s a little stealthy and very tanky. The neutral game is pretty poor on nightstalker. Right now all it’s got is truesight. Both super and neutral game suck in pve. The debuff you can do with the melee is useless. With all the other debuffs we got.
Middle Voidwalker is by far the worst, Way of the Wraith is leagues ahead of it and most of the things you suggest would just break the game. That particular smoke bomb already does too many things, it doesn't need extra functions. Flawless Execution activating on every kill would destroy Crucible. You're proposing that Shattering Strike becomes a 10-second 50% damage increase that can be activated at range and recharges just by shooting enemies (on top of the ability to dodge for instant melee regen). On the Super, you just have to concede that not every Super is good at everything. It's fearsome enough in PvP, it doesn't need to become a PvE juggernaut too.

                    • As a spec main it's actually one of the top 3 supers in game. Chaos, top tree Dawn and spec blades are currently the strongest subclasses. In trials If I have my super 9 times out of 10 I'll eliminate all players or 2 players at least. In control or 6s modes I could eliminate around 3 to 7 people with it. If your asking for a buff for it then honestly your playing spec blades wrong. The flawless execution is actually strong as hell too. Invis and wall hacks at the same time. When invis while in super you receive less damage and your super can last up to 25 seconds maybe 30. The smoke paired with void wall is legit the best pair (wombo combo) again there has been times I've killed two people in trials with the smoke and nade at the same time. Or you have void spike nade which is annoying when you know how to use it. The jump swipe in super makes you catch any running enemy in game and then uppercut to go in use and give wall hacks helps preserve the super for longer. Learn to use spec blades and you never use any other subclass in game. Even when stasis was broken I'd use spec blades over stasis to dominante the field.
