Would you leave Destiny if they took out PvP?

Just a survey for devs to see what they should be focused on. Edit: I've been reading almost all the posts to my poll, and really am enjoying the engaging argument. Yes, I realize the forum has a bias towards PvE. Not much I can do about that. It is what it is. What I am pleased to see is the COMMENTS seem to be relatively equal in PvP vs PvE...and that was my hope. Is balance in PvP hurting PvE? Should D2 PvE be a deeper RPG experience? What other games handle this marriage of PvP and PvE well, and how are they able to do that? Is PvP being held back by lack of engaging content? While most will blame one side for the other's demise, the long and short of it is that Destiny 2 is HUGELY popular...and has been all the while with a marriage of both PvP and PvE...even creating a new genre of game that combines then both, with Gambit. What I feel Bungie needs to do is continue engaging all three sections of the game equally. Seasons should simply rotate the focus...so each get a large content drop when it's their turn. As far as balancing the game, they should stop trying so hard. Balancing doesn't mean make EVERYTHING the same. It means making everything have POTENTIAL...if you use the right combination of mods, perks and play styles. I just don't know if Bungie is slowly killing off PvP to get people to engage with their next IP or are they just struggling to get the right people to fix D2. What I do know, however, is the struggle is real!

Destiny didn't originally come with PvP and although its a really fun game mode its definitely not the driving force of this franchise for me EDIT* Sorry it was level gated not absent on launch. I can admit I don't remember everything from d1 7 years ago.

No PvP would mean: - less toxicity in forums and in game = healthier community - no more having to play PvP to get certain stuff - PvE not suffering from nerfs because of PvP - more Bungie ressources for PvE - profit - go play -blam!- of Doody or something

        • Flawed game mode > No game mode Taking out pvp would be a massive loss for the game as a whole. Removing content & ways to play has never gone well for bungie. Also, toxicity doesn't represent every PvP player, but the longer term hit to the overall community wouldn't be worth it when they could/should just keep working on it. The 'perfect-or-not-at-all' ideology is way less fun or productive in practice than people think it is.

I think they should separate it, not get rid of it. I wouldn’t miss it at all, but I think this connection of the two that they have hurts the PvE more than is worth insisting on keeping it the way it currently is because it’s now obvious that they are trying to make this game much more RPG than it originally was. Whether anyone wants to admit it or not, Bungie included, Destiny is a PvE game with PvP. It is not equal parts both.

        • I'd actually cheer it (No disrespect to PVP players). The marriage of PVP and PVE in this game has always been a bad marriage, and one that has always kept this game from reaching its potential as a PVE game and as an RPG. Because the entire game is limited to the narrow range of game mechanics that SHOOTER gamers are willing to accept. Also, Bungie----right now---is utterly lost as to how to go about creating a PVP experience that is relevant in 2021....and all the changes they keep making to Crucible in Destiny 2 keeps making the play experience worse. Not better. In short, Destiny PVE and PVP need to get a divorce, for irreconcilable differences.

          • Now? Like as in, TWAB: "We are removing PVP." Yes. 100% because I played Destiny 1 for PVP mostly. Going forward, It would just entice me to play more Borderlands 3. I mean, we have guys doing raids over 70 times and still can't get Eyes if Tomorrow... Destiny 2 PVP died when maps got removed, sunsetting & cheaters started to take over Comp & Trials. Just play Apex, COD, SWBF 2 or Quake on PC. Im really waiting for DOOM: Eternal to come out with PVP for classic arena style FPS mains like myself. I'm playing Turok 2: Seeds of Evil on PS4 over D2 PVP. So in this current time if that happened, it would never see the light of day again from me. Only 3 classes for this long too. Should have been 6 bt now. Shit trash asf.

          • I’d leave this game so fast. It’s not good enough for me to smash my skull into a strike 500+ times. Destiny would need Diablo level replay ability for me to care.

          • no, i would not but then again i see it as people would get bored extremely fast since pvp is the only "fun" part about it since it predicable now, i mean handcannon v dreg or anything i kinda miss the old days where everything could take a shot then again before anything it was the raid that kept everything going since VOG was the one that made the game come back, i saw some people say "pvp always had pvp" if i am right destiny was failing since the lack of content like now, but then VOG came out and everyone went crazy i could be wrong but i am just saying D2 might go though the same thing since guess what in a few days VOG is coming back

Sbmm kept the balance now all you have is the same randomness CoD has and it can be incredibly 1 sided. Rewards are not unique and lack of content only hurts it. Trials was not the solution, wanted but not a fix for 8 years worth of issues that pinnacles remedied for a time but with sunsetting only made worse. Only a matter of time before it goes back which it should. Game should not be dumbed down for the same people who won't even play it past a week.

            • I'd play even more if they added more quests steps/bounties that involved pvp. People genuinely cried about getting 10 heavy weapon kills in Iron Banner. That's how bad they are. I play both PvE and PvP. Love them both. But the PvE only people are the most toxic cancerous part of this community. Wanting pvp removed because deep down they know they suck at it.

              • I wouldn't leave the game as I still like playing PvE... but the game would become a bit more boring. It would reduce the already pitiful amount of variety we have in this game already.

              • Even if less people say yes that’s still a pretty fat chunk, and I’m sure a lot players are people who play both, also pvp keeps destiny going through content droughts and is a source for a ton of content for players and creators, without pvp the destiny community would slowly dwindle and become also what makes destiny so special, you can find good pve anywhere and it’s true pvp in destiny can feel bad but have you tried other pve games with pvp??they’re horrible, destiny NEEDS pvp to be destiny, who’d forget how last word and thorn destroyed in the crucible??? People still talk about it to this day yet no one talks about pve weapons as much, you get what I’m saying? Pvp is intrinsic to destiny.

                • Removing pvp is a bad idea cause a lot of people don’t find grinding the same 7 strikes enjoyable, pvp is much more of a repeatable activity

                      • It's a biased poll. Destiny IS a PVE game that has a strong pvp factor, its always going to have the majority agree with only pve because of the way pvp has been treated. There is no pvp quite as satisfying as destiny, sharp gunplay, cool abilities and great loot (sometimes). It just needs dedicated attention by a set team to get more people involved. Plus, pve can get stale faster than pvp in a lot of scenarios, there are only so many times that you can make enemies more difficult or have simple but interesting mechanics before pve mains cry out that there is nothing to do. Borderlands 3 is strictly pve and no matter how many tough enemies they add, or how many mechanics you add, once you do it enough times, it's done. Whereas in pvp the challenge is the other player in a seasonal meta-shifting sandbox, the only issue is maps that are done to death, little loot incentive in a looter-shooter, and broken metas that make gunfights less rewarding to enjoy or challenge than pulling out a shotgun and freezing the opponent. The answer will never be to remove pvp, it can be a fantastic gamemode when there is a big enough reason to care vs the struggle of pvp in a game about space magic. It simply needs fresh ideas and an ammo economy re-balance to shift people away from only using special ammo for a 1 shot kill.
